As always, ghouls and goblins will be roaming the neighborhoods this Oct. 31, but if taking part in the traditional house-to-house visit for candy is not your thing, there are other options.

 For those wanting to get a jump on festivities, the Weiser Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Business Trick or Treat on Monday, Oct. 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. About 45 local businesses will be handing out candy. Come inside with your ghoulies, get some candy, and take a look around.

Idahoans prepare for Nov. 8, 2022 general election

Idaho residents are gearing up for the state’s general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. 
 On the ballot is a proposed amendment to Idaho’s constitution regarding special sessions.
 Currently, the Legislature can only meet in a special session by call of the state’s governor. Under the proposed amendment (SJR 102) the Legislature would be allowed to convene itself if 60 percent of the members in each house submit a petition to the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Weiser Planning & Zoning recommends land annexation

The Weiser Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday voted 4-1 in favor of recommending the annexation and C-3 zoning designation of a 4.39-acre parcel of land into Weiser’s city limits.
 The property is located on the west side of Highway 95, south of the Weiser River Bridge.
 Ole’s Tavern and a short strip of apartments are located directly south of the parcel and would not be included in the potential annexation.

Terry Ash enters new plea in murder case

Terry Allen Ash, who shot and killed a Midvale man during an argument in spring 2021, has changed his plea.
 Ash, citing self-defense, originally pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge, but changed to involuntary manslaughter following an Oct. 4 mediation session, according to court records. The plea, which comes with a weapons enhancement, was entered Wednesday, Oct. 12.
 Idaho statute allows a judge to order a greater   sentence when a firearm is used in the commission of a crime.

City makes code changes for animal disturbances

The Weiser city council last week passed ordinance No. 1263, which updates city code concerning animal-related disturbances.
 The changes are a result of a multitude of nuisance complaints throughout the city.
 “It was just time to go through and update things,” said Weiser Mayor Randy Hibberd.

Angel Wings Network gifted second car, a Lincoln MKZ

It has been a doozy of a year for Angel Wings Network and the blessings just seem to keep coming.
 The local organization, which provides support services to individuals and families affected by cancer, has been able to expand its services and programs, in part, thanks to generous donations of time, talent, and the unexpected.
 “This has been a year of just so many blessings and we are growing,” said Angel Wings director Mabel Dobbs.

Mayor would like input on ideas to promote healthier living

This last week was very busy and very interesting. 
 Monday was a holiday, so Tuesday was the first day of the week, which started off in Nampa with councilmembers Alicia Fowler and Sterling Blackwell and myself attending the Association of Idaho Cities’ semi-annual workshop.
