City’s building design standards approved

Newcomers now have a set of standards that they must meet for everything from lighting to landscaping before they can build a home or business in Weiser.
 The Weiser City Council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 1273, which establishes new design rules and a review committee to help developers navigate them on the path to a building permit.

County considers moratorium

With an attendance on Monday that filled both the Washington County Commissioners meeting room and the hallway outside of it, the board continued a discussion on a request for a 182-day moratorium declaration on A1 zoned land divisions and residential development to next week. Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the next commissioners meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27. Not set as of this writing, the agenda will be on the county’s website..

School facilities funds being put to work

The Weiser School District will see the first $1.5 million of its total $5.9 state School Modernization Facilities fund expended this summer, with the replacement of three roofs and Weiser High School’s 60-year-old main gym floor. 
 After Idaho’s legislature passed the School Modernization Facilities funding bill in 2024, Weiser School District applied and qualified for the total $5.9 million, which they chose to receive in a lump sum. The District received the funds in three payments, and with interest earned included, the current balance is $6,477,383. 

City council approves Park Street dog park

Weiser will soon get its first official dog park provided funding comes through as expected. 
 The city council unanimously approved setting aside a section of the sports complex on E. Park Street for dogs to run free.
 The proposal came from a dedicated group of local residents who have been hunting for the right spot to put a canine recreation area.

Hillcrest Cemetery ready for weekend visitors

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend is the busiest time of year for Hillcrest Cemetery. It is also the most beautiful weekend, as the green grass is punctuated by the many flowers which are brought to remember loved ones who have passed. 
 During the weekend Hillcrest staff will be available to help locate graves. They will be in the office on Indianhead Road Friday through Monday, ready to help with maps and directions. If you are looking for a grave please check in at the office first.

Big names highlight Wrightman fundraiser on May 31

Tim Wrightman hopes to put some “fun” into fundraising this month to help local student athletes. 
 The former professional football player is hosting a dinner and auction May 31 at his Lazy Bear Ranch near Weiser to benefit the Tim Wrightman Foundation. 
 Wrightman said the foundation is transitioning away from the football camps it has hosted in previous years, but still wants to help young people in the Treasure Valley. 

Popular Christian worship band to perform in Weiser

Christian worship band, Northgate Revival will be in concert on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m., at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Weiser. This is a free event and the public is welcome.
 Led by Luke Yates and Dillon Campbell, Northgate Revival has established their mission to inspire spiritual renewal across the nation through powerful worship concert events.

Weiser Public Library Teen Takeover

 The Weiser Public Libary will hold a Teen Takeover on Friday, May 23 from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for youth ages 13-18. Come hang out at the library and play Mario Kart, needle felting, pizza, board games, and more. All the fun is free.
