Steve's Hometown Dealerships Community Benefit Golf Scramble

The 34th annual Hometown Dealerships golf scramble will be held Sept. 10 at Scotch Pines Golf Course with registration at 9 a.m. and the scramble starting at 10 a.m. Registration comes with a cart, a great brunch, lunch, appetizers and plenty of beverages along with an awesome swag bag. The annual Steve's Hometown Motors Taste of the Treasure Valley and charity auction will be held at the Malheur County Fairgrounds in the big red barn on Saturday, Sept. 9 starting at 6 p.m. There will be wine and beer tasting with great local foods from local restaurants.

Hundreds of Mexican workers lived at the camp until 2003

 Weiser was once the site of a labor camp that housed hundreds of men, women, and children over the years who worked in area crop fields.

You may not believe this, but this last week was rather plain for Cathy and me. We didn’t go hiking, or go for an excursion, or do anything other than go to a movie. You see, we stuck around to water a yard, do some weeding, and feed a fish so that our daughter’s family could take a trip to the coast. For our efforts we were rewarded with pictures and videos of giant sandcastles, grandkids running through waves, sunsets, and a myriad of other moments. Sometimes a rather plain week is just right.

Surviving Hearts, Angel Wings receive surprise donations

 Local cancer support group Surviving Hearts recently received a $25,000 shot in the arm from a donor in Boise.
 “It was a total, complete surprise,” said Surviving Hearts founder Shellie Colvard. “We didn’t expect it at all.” 
 The money was donated by Boise nonprofit Flock Cancer Idaho, an organization that promotes awareness about cancer, specifically breast cancer. 
 Last May, organizers put on their annual “Flock Cancer Street Stroll,” which raises funds for cancer support groups of all types.

Free sports physicals

Weiser Memorial Hospital, Weiser Family Medical Center, and Two Rivers Medical Clinic are offering free sports physicals to all Weiser School District athletes planning to take part in school sports programs.

History of Weiser Labor Camp presentation July 22

 The Snake River Heritage Center (Weiser museum) and the Weiser Architectural Preservation Committee will be providing the venue for the History of the Weiser Labor Camp presentation on Saturday, July 22 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Weiser Depot in downtown Weiser. The history of the labor camp, 1943-2003, will be shared along with time for questions and sharing information.

Blood Drive August 2

 Weiser’s quarterly blood drive will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vendome Events Center. Please call Alex Chavarria at 208-602-7138 or Dorothy Evans at 208-549-5589 for an appointment.  Appointments are preferred but every attempt will be made to accommodate drop-ins. Rapid Pass is strongly encouraged. Blood supplies are low so your blood could save a life.
