Weiser boys’, girls’ tennis teams place second at districts

The Weiser High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams placed second at district competition, which took place May 11-12.
 Several individuals qualified for the 2023 3A State Championships scheduled for May 19-20 at Ridgeview High School, located at 18800 Madison Road in Nampa, and Owyhee High School, located at 3650 N. Owyhee Storm Ave. in Meridian.
 Girls’ and boys’ singles will be at Ridgeview HS, with girls’ and boys’ doubles taking place at Owyhee HS.

Wolverine baseball season ends with loss to Payette

The Weiser Wolverines put up a tough fight against Payette in a do or die situation to continue on through districts in a chance to go to the State Championship.  This is not a position that Weiser has been in for a few years and it was a hard thing to process.  
 Three seniors played their last game in Payette this past Tuesday and came up short 5-1.  
 Payette got their offense going sooner than the Wolverines could and despite throwing everything they had at the game, they couldn’t get caught up.

Homedale claims district title with narrow 6-3 win over Weiser
Weiser’s Lady Wolverine softball team sealed a trip to the 3A State tournament in Blackfoot with a 10-1 win over McCall-Donnelly on Monday, May 8, sending them to the 3A District 3 championship game in Homedale on Wednesday, May 10.

Lady Wolverines set two new school relay records

The Weiser High School track team competed in the 3A District III championship meet on May 15. Several athletes qualified for the state championship and the girls’ team came out on top as overall SRV District Champions. 
 The Weiser womens’ team placed first for the day, with a score of 97.33 with McCall Donnelly taking second with a score of 87. Fruitland was third with a score of 65. Several athletes qualified for state by either taking one of the top four placements in their events or by finishing with a qualifying time regardless of placement. 

Angel Wings participates in Flock Cancer Street Stroll

Members of Angel Wings Network participated in the Flock Cancer Street Stroll that took place in Boise on Saturday, May 13.
 The cancer support group was selected by organizers as a recipient of funds raised during this year’s event, which was created to replace the Susan G. Komen walk that was discontinued about three years ago.
 “Leslie Scantling, the founder of the Flock Cancer Street Stroll, contacted me by email two months ago and said they would like us to be one of the recipients this year,” explained Angel Wings Executive Director Mabel Dobbs.

Donating blood, a family tradition

There’s an old country western song by Hank Williams, Jr. about family traditions. Although Hank’s unfortunately were drinking and rolling smokes, most family traditions are cherished and meaningful gestures passed down from one generation to the next.
 Donors often cite their reason for giving blood is because a family member did. I guess one could say giving is in their blood. At Weiser’s quarterly blood drive held on May 2 by the American Red Cross, there were a few examples of this great family tradition.

Several payment options are available to pay city utility bills

I sincerely hope that all of you mothers had a great Mother’s Day last Sunday! Cathy and I went to dinner on Friday night and had a get-together with family, on Saturday.  
 On Sunday, we went for a drive to find a “road” we had not been on before. We found just such a road heading up Indianhead. We were able to get about halfway up the hill before coming to something of a fence and a no trespassing sign. It was just as well to stop there as it looked like the “road” deteriorate beyond the fence. 

Annual community pond clean-up June 2

The Indianhead Fly Fishers, along with the City of Weiser, is hosting its annual Weiser Community Pond Clean-up on Friday, June 2. The clean-up will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and finish with a hot dog lunch at about 12 p.m. (noon). Bring gloves and whatever tools you can.

Midvale to hold ‘all-school’ reunion May 28

  There will be an all-school reunion at the Midvale School on Sunday, May 28 with dinner starting at 1 p.m. The gymnasium will be open at 11 a.m. for early visiting. This will be a potluck dinner, table service, and drinks are furnished. In a small rural school, the all-school reunion is popular because you not only see your classmates, but you see the other students that were attending and you see the people you rode the bus with. New Legacy Project at Cornerstone Assembly

 The New Legacy Project, direct from Nashville, will be in concert on Sunday, May 21 at Cornerstone Assembly of God, located at E. Fifth and E. Court Streets in Weiser. The show starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free to all for this community-wide, non-denominational event. A free-will offering will be received for the group.
