Weiser wrestlers handily beat Timberlake 51-22

Everyone can empathize with gaining a few pounds after the holidays, but few have what it takes to drop those pounds quickly in time for the next wrestling match.
That’s just what the Weiser Wolverine wrestlers did Thursday, Jan. 3, in a dual against Timberlake in Fruitland. The dual was scheduled with Timberlake and Moscow, but Moscow was unable to make the trip. Weiser beat Timberlake handily with a final score of 51-22.
“Timberlake was a good dual to get back to business with,” said Coach Drew Dickerson. “We had taken some time off during the break and we had some wrestlers who jumped in and got it done tonight, while others had a little slower start.”
 Individual Weiser results were:
 98 pounds: double forfeit.
106 pounds: Mason Strong won by forfeit.
113 pounds: Conor Marsh lost by pin.
120 pounds: Seth Harris won by pin.
126 pounds: Kooper von Brethorst lost 11-0.
132 pounds: Sylais York won 9-2.
138 pounds: Robert Sudderth won by pin.
145 pounds: Matthew Morris won by pin.
152 pounds: Brody von Brethorst lost 10-3.
160 pounds: Trae Gluch won by pin.
170 pounds: Malachi Hoobery lost 13-7.
182 pounds: Paul Crawford lost by pin.
195 pounds: Riley Willet won by forfeit.
220 pounds: Elijah Carter won by forfeit.
285 pounds: Darrian Hoobery won by pin.
45th Annual Buhl Invitational Jan. 4-5
The Weiser wrestlers finished their dual with Timberlake Jan. 3, and headed across the state to the 45th annual Buhl invite Jan. 4-5.
Some have said that the Buhl invitational is tougher competition than you might see at state and it was a tough battle for Weiser. Competition for this tournament comes from all areas and districts in Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada and included 27 teams.
Although Weiser didn’t end up with the team finish that they wanted, there were definitely some solid displays of wrestling.
Darrian Hoobery had an outstanding tournament with a first place finish at the 220-pound weight class. Hoobery has been wrestling both 220 and 285 weight classes with success this season, but his normal weight class is 220.
Hoobery had three tough matches during the tournament and pinned all three of the wrestlers that he faced.
“Darrian Hoobery saw some good talent at this tournament and the captain definitely rose to the occasion. Buhl is tough. This tournament brings solid talent and as a team we didn’t rise to the occasion, but we definitely learned a lot and have a lot of things to take back to the wrestling room and work on,” stated Coach Drew Dickerson.
Brody von Brethorst was the only other wrestler from Weiser to place in the tournament, taking fourth place.
While varsity was wrestling in Buhl, Weiser’s JV squad got in some matches at the Mountain View JV Invitational. This is a true JV tournament with an “A” and “B” bracket, giving multiple wrestlers in the same weight class a chance to compete in a lot of matches.
 JV “A” bracket results were:
152 pounds: Clayton Beesley, second place.
170 pounds: Malachi Hoobery, third place.
195 pounds: Jesse Lockett, third place.
Weiser wrestlers will be in Homedale for the first conference dual Jan. 8. They are also headed to Orofino, Jan. 11-12, and then another conference dual Jan. 16 in Payette.
