Weiser’s season ends with loss in districts to Payette

The Lady Wolverines finished the regular season with a 6-17 record, which placed them in fourth place in the SRV league and in a precarious position regarding participation in bracket play of the district tournament.
The Lady Wolverines and the fifth place Parma Panthers were required to play a play-in game for a berth in the tournament, and the Wolverines showed their abilities and their desire to progress in a commanding 14-1 win over the Panthers.
The Wolverines took full advantage of the Panther pitching struggles with Madison Phillips leading the team with two hits.  Jakaela Ruiz followed with one hit and three runs, while Kali Branstetter recorded one hit and two runs.
Westi Walker and Erika Tyree each had one hit, while Whitney Cordes and Ivy Morris had two and one runs, respectively.
Cordes pitched all five innings for the Wolverines, allowing three hits, one run and giving one base on balls.  She struck out one.
Homedale
The Wolverines advanced into bracket play of the tournament, and were pitted against the number one team in the league, the Homedale Trojans.
Despite a double by Alex Bittinger in the first inning that resulted in a run batted in by Branstetter and a single by J. Ruiz, batted in by Bittinger in the second, the Wolverines just couldn’t keep up with the Trojan offense.
The Trojans scored 12 runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, five runs in the third and were shut out in the fourth, but the mercy rule ended the pairing in 4½ innings 21-2.
Alex Bittinger led the Wolverines with two hits and one run, followed by Jakaela Ruiz with one hit and one run. Kali Branstetter, Madison Phillips, Erika Tyree and May Erke all had one hit apiece.
Payette
The Lady Wolverines dropped into the consolation bracket with their loss to the Homedale Trojans and were faced with the Payette Pirates, but the Lady Wolverines couldn’t get a foothold in the game, dropping the game 3-13 in six innings.
The Pirates managed to score two runs in the first inning and one in the second, but the Wolverines didn’t get on the board until May Erke hit a single to deep left field, and was batted in by an Ivy Morris double.
The Pirates continued to chip away at the Wolverines with two runs in the third and five runs on four errors and three hits in the fourth innings.
The Wolverines were able to add another run in their fourth inning at-bat from a Tyree single and their final run in the sixth inning from an Erke single, but two runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the Pirates resulted in a 13-3 mercy rule in the sixth inning.
May Erke led the Wolverines with two hits and two runs, followed by Erika Tyree with two hits and one run.  Whitney Cordes, Kali Branstetter and Ivy Morris each had one hit.
