Weiser wrestling travelled to Idaho Falls to compete in the Tiger Grizz Invitational. Weiser was supposed to host Payette last Wednesday night, but due to winter storms and school cancellations that will be re-scheduled.
Many teams gathered to wrestle for the weekend even with the weather and road conditions. Weiser had nine wrestlers competing in the varsity level tournament and then had many others compete in the JV level tournament. The girls had their own section of the tournament and also had a JV and varsity component within the tournament. All this meant for a lot of matches and growth over the weekend.
The Weiser girls had two compete at the varsity level and both placed and did well.
Audrey DeLeon wrestled at the 120 weight class and brought home first place for her Wolverines.
DeLeon received a bye her first match and then had four more over the course of the tournament winning each one by fall. Three of the four were done in less than one minute and that fourth one was a third period fall.
Aliyah Alhilla placed third for her Wolverine team at the 152 weight class. Aliyah had to wrestle five matches to come back around and take third place. She received one bye during the tournament and had one fall in just 42 seconds.
On the varsity men’s side, Weiser got to see a lot of tough competition after travelling such a long distance.
Weiser saw 29 teams at this competition and some came as far away as Utah and Wyoming.  There was also some state competition here and a chance to see some of the wrestlers that they may be facing in competition there.
Weiser had some wrestlers that saw 7-8 matches over the weekend which is a tough way to see just how much you have in your gas tank and gives you plenty to focus on mid-season.
Kash Cobb at the 170 weight class continued to wrestle well for the Wolverines bringing home fourth place and scoring 20 team points over the weekend. Kash wrestled seven matches during the competition and scored a mix of decisions and falls for his team.
Kaleb Grove also did well in the competition finishing in third place for the Wolverines and added 18 team points.
Kaleb wrestled at the 220 weight class and had two byes right off the start of the tournament which makes it difficult to get warmed up and going. In the third round he recorded a fall in just 1:36 seconds to get his momentum going. The rest of the Wolverines battled and had some great learning matches.
This week the Wolverines will go to Parma for a dual on Wednesday and then will head to New Plymouth over the weekend to the RD Brown Invitational.
