Wolverines will work for state berth next season

The Wolverines couldn’t keep up with number one seed Homedale in game two of district last Monday, falling 9-0 to the Trojans in the contest.
Kaleb Grove pitched all 6 innings for the Wolverines allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits, striking out 3.
Weiser took on McCall-Donnelly the next day at home, winning the outing 11-7.
The Vandals scored 1 in the top of the first, but the Wolverines answered with 5 points on the board.
Jack Shirts drew 4 walks in 4 at-bats during the game. In the bottom of the first, Shirts went to second base on an error. Grove flew out to center field, but an errant throw allowed Shirts to score. Finn Dolton added a single to center field and then Harry Cook doubled on a line drive to left field advancing Dolton to third. Brenett Marshall walked to load the bases and then Telsyn Hawker hit a single to center field making it to second base and scoring both Dolton and Cook. Cole Ingle took a turn, reaching on an error by the second baseman to score Marshall.
The Vandals added a run in the top of the second.. Shirts was walked again, Grove was hit by a pitch, and Dolton was walked to load the bases Cook showed the Wolverines why he is in the four-hole and launched a grand slam. Weiser up 9-5.
The Vandals went three up, three down to end the top of the third inning. Shirts started off with another walk followed by a pop up by Grove and a sac fly by Dolton to score Shirts making the score 10-2 in favor of the Wolverines.
The Vandals remained scoreless in the top of the fourth inning. Brenett Marshall singled to left field to get on base. Black singled to left field and then Hawker came to the plate. hitting a fielder’s choice. Black was out going into second base but Marshall scored on a bad throw Hawker advanced to second base. The score was 11-2 in favor of the Wolverines. The Vandals crept back in, scoring 3 in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning ending the contest with the Wolverines winning 11-7.t
The Wolverines went on to face the Parma Panthers the next night at home again for their fourth game this season. Shirts got the start for the Wolverines and lasted five and a third innings allowing 5 runs on 3 hits and struck out 5 Panthers. Black came in to finish the last inning and two thirds and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 2 batters.
Defensive errors plagued the Wolverines, and recording six. On offense it just wasn’t the Wolverine’s day with Weiser getting four hits and zero RBIs. Marshall, Black, and Shirts each went 1 for 2 during the contest.
With the loss, Weiser’s hopes of playing at the state tournament this weekend were dashed and their season came to an end. Weiser has historically hosted the State tournament and this will be the last year they will do so with IHSAA coming in and sanctioning the sport.
