Wolverine track season’s first meet was in Weiser

Weiser’s girls take first place and boys come in second
The Weiser High School track team hosted their first track meet of the season on Wednesday, March 22. Fruitland, Homedale, Parma, Liberty Charter, Wilder, and Notus were all in attendance.
The originally scheduled meet for March 10 was canceled due to weather making for a later start to the season for the Wolverines. For this meet, the weather was ideal for a first track meet, and several team members were able to start the season with strong results in both running and field events.
Weiser took first place in the girls’ teams with a score of 146, followed by Fruitland (122) and Parma (73.5). Several girls were able to place in the top of their events.
In the 100m, Madilyn Wilkins placed sixth with a time of 13.96 and Bethany Walker placed ninth with a time of 14.07.
In the 200m, Weiser had three runners in the top 10: Mattie Shirts first place with a time of 27.97, Kylee Quinton in second with a time of 28.35, and Kamryn Doty fifth with a time of 29.51.
In the 400m race Kailee Lerew took first place 1:03.28 and Callee Foster finished sixth with a time of 1:09.27.
In the 800m Kylee Quinton took first place with a time of 2:26.29 and Claire Matthews took second with a time of 2:33.20. Roma Walker finished fifth with a time of 2:52.40.
In the 1600m, Claire Matthews took first with a time of 5:53.73, Ella Terry finished sixth with a time of 6:45.91.
In the 3200m, Quinton took first with a time of 12:08.52, followed by Matthews in second with a time of 12:20.63.
In the 100m hurdles, Sarah Henderson finished fourth, with a time of 19.23.
Weiser had great results in the relay races as well. The 4x100 team of Emily Christopherson, Madilyn Wilkins, Kamryn Doty, and Kailee Lerew finished second with a time of 53.29.
The 4x200 relay team of Lerew, Wilkins, Doty and Shirts took first place with a time of 1:52.76.
The 4x400 team of Lerew, Quinton, Shirts and Kiana Olvera finished in first place with a time of 4:21.49.
The 4x100 shuttle hurdles team of Emily Christopherson, Bethany Walker, Kiana Olvera, and Sarah Henderson took first place with a time of 2:08.59.
Weiser also had several top finishers in the field events. Teagan Hawker placed fifth in shot put with a distance of 27-03. Hawker also placed sixth in discus with a distance of 72-06. Kamryn Doty took third in high jump with a jump of 4-06. In triple jump Mattie Shirts took first place with 33-09. Bethany Walker took fourth with 31-03.
The Weiser boys team finished in second place overall with a team score of 121 behind Fruitland who scored 152.5.
In the 100m, Andrew Enders took fourth place with a time of 11.79. Jayden Walker took sixth with a time of 11.93. Brayden Walker took eighth with a time of 11.96 and Danny Clemmer finished ninth with a time of 12.08.
In the 200m race, Brayden Walker took third with a time of 24.06, Brian Munoz took fourth with a time of 24.34, Andrew Enders took seventh with a time of 25.23.
In the 400m, Toren Walker, took first with a time of 54.96. Jackson Laird took fourth with a time of 55.99, and Danny Clemmer took sixth with a time of 57.68.
In the 800m, Josh Kelley took first place with a time of 2:11.31.
In the 1600m, Judah Parsons took third place with a time of 5:09.7 and Josh Kelley took fourth with a time of 5:10.25, and Blake Quinton took seventh with a time of 5:15.28.
In the 3200m, Parsons finished second with a time of 10:58.47, followed by Quinton with a time of 11:12.27.
In the 300m hurdles, Brayden Walker took first place with a time of 41.14.
The boys relay teams also ran well. The 4x100 relay of Ben Briggs, Brian Munoz, Alex Magana and Andrew Enders took third with a time of 47.04.
The 4x400 relay team of Jayden Walker, Toren Walker, Michael Youngberg, and Brayden Walker took first place with a time of 3:40.36.
Weiser also saw some strong results in the field events. In shot put, Tristan McMahill took second place with a throw of 40-11 and Trenton Hawker took sixth place with a throw of 38-00. Bryan Juarez took seventh with a throw of 37-11. In discus Trenton Hawker took fifth place with a throw of 116-01. Ryan Ellingson took fourth in pole vault with a jump of 9-06. Colby Walker took ninth in long jump with a distance of 17-05.
Both experienced team members and new team members performed well and set a tone for a strong Wolverine season.
