WHS cross country runners set new records

Weiser High School’s cross country team hosted the annual SRV Invitational at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Weiser on Friday, Oct. 4, competing against McCall-Donnelly, Fruitland, and Payette in 5000 meter races.
 Weiser’s girls’ team filled in six spots of the 26 total athletes running on Friday, with Wolverine Claire Matthews recording a new season record, first-place time of 20:19.7. The record is just under a full minute less than what Matthews ran in late August at Rolling Hills, and 7.6 seconds under the season record she had set at the Bob Firman race a week earlier.
 Weiser’s Corianna Parsons placed fourth overall in a time of 21:13.7; Kelsey Cole’s new personal record of 26:11.9 placed her 13th overall; Kaylee Harris’ 19th overall finish was a new personal record at 28:38.2; Tori Brown placed 25th with a time of 33:07.7; and Mushtariy Eskinova set a personal record of 39:35.3, finishing 26th. 
 The girls team placed third with a score of 59.
 The Wolverines’ mens’ team finished the race in second place with 35 points, just behind McCall-Donnelly’s first place, 32-point finish.
 Wolverine Blake Quinton placed third overall with a personal record time of 16:34.6. His time was four seconds under what he had run in the Bob Firman race the week before. 
 Judah Parsons was fifth with a time of 18:09.2; Josh Kelley placed sixth with 18:19.7; Alex Woods finished 10th with a personal record of 18:57.4; Ammon Anderson recorded a new personal record of 19:11.1, finishing 11th; Jorge Martinez placed 14th in a time of 19:21.3; Max Lattin finished in 20:33.4 for 15th place; Dustin Clark placed 16th, setting a personal record of 21:00.2; Kenneth Babb placed 20th in a time of 21:49.5; JP Despain finished in 23rd place in a time of 22:19.3; Sean Elliott set a personal record of 24:05.5, placing 32nd; and Elijah Hale set a new personal record of 27:12.3, placing 35th.
 In Middle School 3000 meter races, Weiser’s girls’ team placed first out of six teams with 26 points, taking second through fifth in the top 10 overall by Shaylie Wilkins, Erika Quinton, Ellie Woods, and Salome Craven, respectively. The Wolverines boys’ team finished fourth with 122 points.
 Next up is the Winston Tilzey race hosted by Nampa Christian High School at West Park in Nampa on Oct. 16, followed by Districts on Oct. 16 at McCain Middle School in Payette.
