Parsons will represent the girls team and 13 boys will compete at state in Pocatello

Weiser saw some great wrestling this past weekend with the girls district tournament taking place last Tuesday and Wednesday in Boise and the boys district competition in Fruitland.

Corrianna Parsons took third during the tournament beating the number four seed in overtime and then falling to the number one seed in the semi-finals. Parsons then battled back to beat the number four seed again this time by fall to take third.
Head coach, Chad Gibson, was proud of Parsons, “she was absolutely the dark horse of this tournament. She has busted her behind and kept her head pointed in the right direction with her hard work and consistency and now she is seeing her efforts pay off!” Parsons is state bound this next weekend in Pocatello.
On the boys side of the district tournament this past weekend, the Wolverines brought home second place during team competition.
“We have plenty to celebrate with our second place finish, eight finalists, four champs, 13 qualifiers for state and the potential of three wild cards (Eric Ramirez, Wyatt Wrenfrow and Telsyn Hawker) getting bids to the state tournament,” Gibson stated.
To say Weiser did well may be an understatement. The eight finalists in the championship round were Wyatt Black at 113, Cole Ingle at 132, Klete Cook at 138, Ty Cobb at 144, Stockton Young at 157, Luke Sarich at 165, Kash Cobb at 175, and Matthew Monterrosa at 190. All of these eight matches were battles to say the least, but four young men battled and came out on top bringing home first place.
Cole Ingle came out on top going into the district tournament as the number one seed. He received a bye during the first round and then took out a Homedale opponent by fall in just 44 seconds. In the finals he faced a Fruitland wrestler and took him all three rounds to win by decision 7-4.
Ty Cobb was the next champion at 144, He took out opponents from Homedale and Payette with quick falls to make it to the championship round. He wrestled an opponent from Fruitland and was leading the match in points when they wrestled and went out of bounds with the Fruitland wrestler on top and back in the match. In true Cobb form Ty dug in and went to work taking the match to three rounds and coming out with a huge win by decision 17-10.
Luke Sarich was next at 165 and received a bye in the first round and then beat a Payette opponent by fall before heading into the championship match. Sarich took on a Fruitland foe for the championship and beat him handily with a 14-8 decision.
Kash Cobb was the final champion during the weekend. He started out with a Fruitland opponent that he fell in just 35 seconds. Next he took on Payette and won that one by fall in a short 25 seconds. He headed into the championship against a Fruitland wrestler and won by technical fall 16-1.
Any wrestler who placed first through fourth place earns the right to go to state. Kash Williams took fourth at 120. Sean Elliott at 98, Charlie Nevarez at 132, Rick Erickson at 150, and Kaiden Peck at 285 all took third place. Wyatt Black at 113, Klete Cook at 138, Stockton Young at 157, and Matthew Monterrosa all took second place.
Congratulations to the Wolverines who will represent Weiser at 4A State wrestling!
