After a stinging 3-0 loss at Cole Valley High School on Monday, Sept. 23, Weiser’s Lady Wolverines varsity volleyball team flipped the script in Payette on Thursday, Sept. 26, knocking out a 3-0 win over the Lady Pirates.
At Cole Valley, the three sets went the Lady Chargers way by scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-21.
The Wolverines out powered the Pirates in the first two sets on Thursday, 25-6 and 25-10, but the Pirates turned up the heat in the third set, with Weiser getting the win in the end, 31-29.
“With the Payette game we turned the corner into the second half of the conference matches,” Coach Michelle Estes told the Signal American. “Midway through the season we are nursing a few injuries and working through last minute adjustments to the lineup.”
She commends her team on their support for each other and their teamwork mentality.
“With the loss on Monday against Cole Valley we refocused with a renewed fire that was evident against Payette,” she said. “The first two sets our team played clean and put the ball away. The third one we let it get away from us, but we never gave up.
“With true Wolverine spirit and Madi Wilkins serving six straight points, we played tough and chipped away from an 18 to 24 deficit to tie the game and eventually put it away, winning 31-29. We are proud of the effort, focus to push through, and mental toughness to finish the match,” Estes said.
Wolverine team stats from Payette’s match: Madi Wilkins 2 aces and 14 assists; Presley Williams, 1 ace and 11 assists; Ellie Shirts, 16 digs, serve received 2.410, 1 kill, 2 aces, and 1 assist; Adalyn Brush, 8 digs, serve received 2.710, 2 kills, and 1 ace; Evie Dolton, 7 kills and 2 blocks; and Lucy Hickey, 8 kills, 1 block, and 4 aces.
