The Wolverines handed Cole Valley Christian a 59-0 loss in a game played at Rocky Mountain High School in Boise on Saturday.
The victory extends Weiser’s winning streak to five, and pushes the team’s overall record to 5-2 and 3-0 in conference play.
Cole Valley jumped to the 4A SRV (Snake River Valley) Conference this year following a re-organization of Idaho’s sports classification system.
The Chargers previously competed as a 2A team while Weiser competed in 3A. Both are now 4A teams and conference foes, with Cole Valley recording a 1-6 overall record so far in 2024.
The game:
Weiser won the coin toss, senior Xander Gray receiving the kickoff at the 20-yard line and advancing to the 35 where the Wolverines began their first offensive series.
It didn’t last long, however, senior receiver Josh Mizar catching a 5-yard pass from senior quarterback Kolin Cook at the 40-yard line. Mizar, who has become a regular target for Cook this season, carried the ball the rest of the way, resulting in a 65-yard touchdown reception.
Senior kicker Diego Delgadillo made good on the extra point to put the Wolverines up 7-0, not even a minute into the first quarter.
Cole Valley started its first offensive series from the 22-yard line, but could only muster a yard on first and second downs, and fumbled the ball on third down. A Charger was able to recover the fumble, but was quickly brought down by junior defender Cole Ingle at the 17-yard line.
Weiser took possession again after Cole Valley’s punt, starting off at the 20-yard line.
Ingle notched out a 14-yard run on first down, followed by a 6-yard touchdown run by senior running back Kash Cobb. Delgadillo’s extra point attempt, however, was blocked, leaving the score 13-0 early in the first quarter.
Cobb would score again in the first from a 5-yard run, followed by a 42-yard pass reception for touchdown by Gray.
Senior Weston Black added a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, followed by Gray who ran back a Charger punt 55 yards for a touchdown.
Cook later scored a 3-yard touchdown on a keeper and Delgadillo connected on a 27-yard field goal attempt to make it 51-0 at the half.
Head coach Tom Harrison and his staff fielded junior varsity players in the second half, sophomore Klete Cook taking over at quarterback. Sophomore Ty Cobb scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, with junior Shayd Crossley scoring the two-point conversion from the 3-yard line, making it 59-0 by the end of the third quarter.
Idaho High School Activities Association rules provide for a running clock when there is a 40-point differential. In Saturday’s game the game clock began running in the second quarter.
Weiser amassed 428 yards of total offense on Saturday.
Cook completed 5 of 6 passes for 104 yards and 1 touchdown. Klete Cook went 1 of 2 for 18 yards. Weston Black led all rushers with 69 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown, followed by Kash Cobb who ran for 59 yards on 6 carries and 2 touchdowns. Adding to the mix was Shayd Crossley who had 4 carries for 35 yards, and Cole Ingle with 24 yards on 2 carries.
Josh Mizar had 1 reception for 65 yards and a touchdown, followed by Xander Gray who had 1 catch for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Senior Luke Sarich led all tacklers with 6.
