Weiser’s girls take first, boys second

 The Weiser High School track teams competed in the Amy Christopherson Invitational in Homedale on Friday, April 26. Both teams competed well, with the men’s team taking second place out of 12 teams and the women’s team taking first out of 15 teams. 
 In the men’s division, Weiser scored 98. McCall Donnelly took first place overall with 153 points. Burns finished third with 89 points.  
 Weiser had several athletes place near the top for several events. Starting with the sprint distances: In the 100m, Jayden Walker finished first with a time of 11.6. Toren Walker finished second with a time of 11.68. In the 200m, Jayden Walker finished first with a time of 23.11. Jackson Laird placed fifth with a time of 23.94. 
 In the mid-distance races: Toren Walker second in the 400 with a time of 51.35 and Garrett Walker placed eighth with a time of 54.55. In the 800m race, Josh Kelley placed 10th with a time of  2:12.39.   
 For the long distance races, Josh Kelley placed fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:52.19. In the 3200, Blake Quinton placed third with a time of 10:39.45. Jorge Martinez placed fourth with a time of 11:01.01.  
 Weiser’s relay teams all competed extremely well. The 4x100m team: Jackson Laird, Jayden Walker, Brock Spencer, and Toren Walker placed first with a time of 43:70. The 4x200 team: Brock Spencer, Thayn Blanchard, Garrett Walker and Jackson Laird placed third with a time of 1:35.48. The 4x400 team: Jayden Walker, Garrett Walker, Jackson Laird, and Toren Walker placed second with a time of 3:32.31. 
 Several athletes also did well in field events. In shot put, Karsten Walker placed 10th with a throw of 41’4.5”. In discus, Brock Spencer placed second with a throw of 133’10”. Garrett Walker and Josh Mizar tied for sixth in the high jump with a height of 5’6”. Ryan Youngberg placed seventh in the pole vault with a height of 11’8”. Josh Mizar placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 38’8”. 
 In the womens’ competition, Weiser finished first with a team score of 116.2. McCall-Donnelly finished second with a score of 114.2. Homedale finished third with a score of 83.75. 
 In the sprint distances: Madi Wilkins placed sixth in the 100m with a time of 13.81. Madi Jones placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 29.08. 
 In the mid-distance races, Kailee Lerew placed first in the 400m with a time of 59.40. Kamryn Doty placed fourth with a time of 1:04.02.  In the 800, Claire Matthews placed third with a time of 2:28.04. Corianna Parsons placed fifth with a time of 2:39.47. In the 300m hurdles, Abi Wilkins placed third with a time of 51.78. 
 In the distance races, Claire Matthews placed first in the 3200 with a time of 12:31.94 and Kendall Rynearson placed second with a time of 12:43.87. Claire Matthews also placed fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:41.21. 
 Weiser’s relay teams performed well overall. The 4x100m relay team: Madi Wilkins, Bethany Walker, Abi Wilkins, and Kailee Lerew placed second with a time of 51.31. The 4x200 team: Madi Wilkins, Madi Jones, Bethany Walker and Abi Wilkins placed second with a time of 1:52.24. The SMR team, Madi Wilkins, Bethany Walker, Abi Wilkins and Kailee Lerew placed first with a time of 1:56.15. 
 Weiser also had athletes perform well in the field events. Teagan Hawker placed fifth in the shot put with a  throw of 29’7”. In discus,  Anna Rodriguez placed third with a throw of 91’10”. In the high jump, Kamryn Doty tied for second with a height of 4’10”. Bethany Walker placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 33’ 6.25”.
 Weiser will compete next in the Lynn Behrman Invitational in Parma on Friday May 3. This will be a very large meet with 20 schools attending so many teams will be limiting their competitors to just the top contenders in each event.
