Wolverines Jensen and Kingsbury post personal best scores
Weiser High School’s young golf teams have made some big strides this spring, showing up in robust finishes after last week’s Wolverines-hosted SRV match at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Weiser senior boys team leader Carter Jensen and sophomore girls team member Samantha Kingsbury each shot personal best low scores of 40 and 46, respectively, in the nine-hole match.
In his second year playing golf, Jensen was well-pleased with his finish.
“I feel good about this score, I played pretty good,” Jensen told the Signal American. “I could have hit a couple of better shots out there to lower the score, but I’ll take a 40. I feel like it went good.”
Likewise, Kingsbury’s extra practice this spring put her in a finish just one stroke behind first-place individual finisher, Weiser’s Lucy Hickey.
“I think I did really good, but Lucy’s really good,” Kingsbury said. “That’s the best I’ve ever shot.”
Hickey said she has scored lower than Wednesday’s 45, but will take the win.
“I started good, but hole seven wasn’t very good,” Hickey said. “I got a triple bogey, and then on hole one I got a quadruple bogey, but I putted pretty good.”
When the day wrapped up, the boys individual medalist was McCall-Donnelly’s Charlie Reeder with a score of 39, with Jensen finishing second, 40, and Luke Henry, Homedale, 41.
Girls individual medalist went to Hickey, 45, with Kingsbury and McCall-Donnelly’s Ellie Cramblet tied for second with scores of 46 each.
Team finishes, based on the four lowest scores per team, were:
Boys: McCall-Donnelly and Homedale, tied for first, 177; Fruitland, second, 188; Weiser, third, 197; Payette, fourth, 224; and Parma, fifth, 229.
Girls: Weiser, first, 208; McCall-Donnelly, second, 214; and Homedale, third, 222. Neither Payette or Parma had full teams, but did have individual players competing.
Weiser”s individual scores were: Boys, Jensen 40, Charley Nevarez 49, Ryndon Olsen 53, Wes Manser 55, and Mike Odette 56. Girls, Hickey 45, Kingsbury 46, Hannah Grace 58, Presley Williams 59, and Avery Palmer 68.
The Wolverines will play on April 23 in an SRV match at Scotch Pines Golf Course in Payette.
