Weiser wrestling travelled one last time this past weekend to Pocatello, Idaho to compete in the 4A state wrestling tournament.
Weiser brought 16 wrestlers to the fight and saw some ferocious competition. Seven of the Weiser wrestlers finished on the podium and took fourth place overall as a team.
Coming as no surprise at all, both Luke Sarich and Kash Cobb took home first place finishes for the Wolverines! These two seniors have been partners in crime all through their high school years, pushed each other in the wrestling room being close in weight and finished their high school careers at the top.
Luke Sarich wrestled at 165 and had some exciting matches and some very technical matches through his state competition. His first match he won by a technical fall 17-2. He beat a local Payette competitor by fall in the quarterfinals. In semifinals Sarich found some competition from Marsh Valley and beat him 12-9 by decision. Sarich’s last match was one that was a nail biter and ended up with his final win of his high school career 3-1 over an athlete from Kimberly.
Kash Cobb, 175, took the bull by the horns and went through all four of his matches winning by fall. Cobb’s first match was against Bear Lake where he made a statement winning in just 41 seconds. Next was Snake River where he won in just 1:08. Semifinals came and Cobb took on a Timberlake athlete. This match offered up a little more of a challenge yet ended once again by fall in 2:19. The final match of Kash Cobb’s high school career was against a Kimberly wrestler and Kash did what Kash does and he did it well. Cobb won his match by fall in just 1:49 to take his second championship of his career.
Finishing in second place for the Wolverines was the younger Cobb at 144. Ty wrestled well all the way through his tournament. He beat South Fremont by fall, then Teton by technical fall, and Fruitland by major decision. Ty Cobb faced an American Falls athlete for finals and came up against a fight. Cobb just couldn’t finish the match on top taking second place for his team.
Cole Ingle, 132 had a great showing during his state tournament taking third place for the Wolverines. Ingle wrestled five tough matches and only had one tough loss during the tournament.
In fourth place, Stockton Young at 157 also had a great tournament finishing three out of five matches on top to take fourth.
Kaiden Peck, 285, finished in fifth place after six hard fought matches and Klete Cook, 138, finished in sixth place after his own six matches.
Great job bringing home championships and hardware and sharing a great Wolverine season with our readers.
