The Legislative District 9 (LD9) Committee convened at the Payette County Courthouse on March 22 to vet Republican candidates seeking positions in Idaho’s Legislative District 9.
The purpose was to choose which candidates the committee would endorse going into the May 21 primary election.
They included Idaho House of Representative incumbent Judy Boyle, seat A, and incumbent Jacyn Gallagher, seat B. Gallagher’s opponent is John Shirts, who was represented by Mary Schwartz at Friday’s meeting. As a U.S. Air Force reservist JAG officer, Shirts is currently serving in proceedings taking place in Europe and could not attend.
Senate LD9 candidate Brandon Shippy was in attendance. His opponent, Scott Syme, was not in attendance and was not represented.
Individuals who joined the meeting were given the opportunity to present all of the candidates with questions. At the end of the session, LD9 committee members voted on who the group will endorse.
Those receiving endorsements from the committee and the State Republican Party include Shippy, Boyle, and Gallagher.
“We would like to thank all of those who came to the meeting and participated in the process,” said Washington County Republican Central Committee and LD9 Committee Chairman Kirk Chandler, who moderated the event. “We encourage everyone to take the time to get to know your candidates and what they represent and how they will represent you.”
Chandler added that this is the first time that the LD9 committee has endorsed Republican candidates in the primary.
