Weiser’s Lady Wolverines volleyball team split last week with a 3-0 win over Cole Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 8, followed with a 0-3 loss to McCall-Donnelly on Thursday, Oct. 10.
The Wolverines’ win over Cole Valley Christian was payback for a 3-0 loss taken the last time the teams met. Weiser’s final set scores on Tuesday went: 25-20, 25-19, and 25-23.
Weiser’s team stats were solid: Madi Wilkins, 16 digs, six kills, four aces, and 16 assists; Evie Dolton seven digs and three kills; Lucy Hickey, eight kills and two blocks; Paisley Noyer, seven kills, six blocks, and two assists; Presley Williams, seven assists; and Kailee Lerew, 13 digs, 2.250 serve-receive, and one ace.
“The girls played well as a team and stayed focused to win three straight sets against Cole Valley,” coach Michelle Estes said. “It was fun to see them work well together and implement a few things we have been working on.”
Thursday night the Wolverines went to work after a Senior Night celebration honoring seniors: Kamryn Doty, Hailey Eames, Lucy Hickey, Paisley Noyer, Madi Wilkins, Jordan Stromberg, and Kailee Lerew
Always a tough opponent and with some big players in the front row, McCall-Donnelly’s Lady Vandals brought a tough game to the court, handing the Wolverines a 15-25 loss in the first set. Weiser held her own in the second set, taking a lead early on, but the Vandals pounded away, catching up, and in the end gave Weiser a 20-25 loss.
The teams went toe-to-toe in the third set, but ended 24-26 in McCall’s favor.
Wolverine stats: Madi Wilkins, 12 digs, six kills, and 14 assists; Evie Dolton, four digs, and six kills; Lucy Hickey, six kills, two blocks, and five digs; Kailee Lerew, 11 digs; Ellie Shirts, 14 digs; and Presley Williams, five assists and one ace.
Philosophical in her recap of the match, Estes said, “While the match didn’t end up how we wanted it to, we always take away learning opportunities. Senior night is a bit more emotional than any other night; we have a solid group of girls that we will miss next year.”
The Wolverines traveled to Fruitland on Tuesday, Oct. 15, to wrap up regular season play, with the District 3 4A tournament starting Saturday, Oct. 19.
