It was nearly a month between the Lady Wolverines first meeting against Parma where they took a 7-4 loss, but Weiser got a payback with interest last week, dominating the Panthers with a 12-3 win.
Parma got one run on the board in the first inning on a pair of Weiser fielding errors, then added another in the third when the bases were full and a batter was hit by the pitch.
The Wolverines turned 14 hits into 12 runs in the game, with sophomore first baseman Ellie Shirts driving in four on three hits. Going 3-4, she scored one on a single in the third, another on a double in the fourth, and two on a triple in the fifth.
Shirts, Taylor Mordhorst, Jordan Campbell, and Trista Buescher combined for 10 of Weiser’s 14 hits, with Jordan Stromberg, Danica Lockett, Bennett Torres and Jessica Waite adding one apiece.
Weiser moved into the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning, after Shirts and Waite each singled, Torres walked, and a wild pitch scored Weiser’s sixth run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Torres doubled, Lockett grounded out, Shirts tripled, and Mordhorst singled, adding five runs on four hits to the Wolverines side of the board. Weiser 12, Parma 2.
Parma came back in the top of the seventh, scoring one run on two walks and a single to give Weiser the 12-3 win.
Aryssa Aburto was in the circle for Weiser, allowing three runs on three hits, and striking out 13.
Weiser 13, Fruitland 7
The Lady Wolverines traveled to Fruitland Wednesday, April 17, defeating the conference foes for a second time this season 13-7.
Weiser was ahead 6-0 mid-way through the third inning, when with no outs, the Grizzlies put five runs on the board on a hit-by-pitch, a pair of doubles, an error, and a homerun. A strikeout, ground out, and fly out ended the half, putting Weiser back at bat.
Weiser put one run on the board in the top of the fourth, and Fruitland answered in the bottom with one of their own.
Back at bat in the top of the fifth, Shirts doubled on a fly ball to right field, advancing Cantrell to third base. Campbell was walked, followed by Buescher hitting a hard grounder to short, scoring both Shirts and Cantrell. Weiser 9, Fruitland 6.
The Grizzlies went three up, three down in the bottom, and Aburto hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth to give Weiser 10 runs. Fruitland ran into a quick two outs in the bottom half on a double play when R. Mason ground out to second baseman Stromberg, and F. Newman was out advancing to second. Fruitland’s Stringer singled on a ground ball, and R. Noyes followed her with a triple on a fly ball, adding one more run to the Grizzlies side of the board.
Shirts scored on a solo homerun in the top of the seventh. Buescher singled, Lockett doubled, and Mordhorst was walked. Aburto singled on a fly ball to short, scoring Buescher. With Stromberg at bat, Lockett scored on a passed ball before she flew out to right field
With two strikeouts in a row, Fruitland wasn’t able to capitalize on a double by G. Smith before a ground out ended the inning.
