Big innings give Weiser 3-1 record in weekend tourney

On the ground after snagging up a ground ball in the bottom of the third inning against Jerome, Weiser’s second baseman Jordan Stromberg tossed the ball to shortstop Ali Navarrete who had got to the base in time to put out the oncoming Tigers’ base runner. After losing that game 6-5, the Wolverines went on to defeat three other teams by wide margins in the weekend tournament, Borah, Preston and Ridgevue. Photo by Nancy Grindstaff

Weiser’s Lady Wolverine softball team spent the first two days of spring break in a four-game tournament, narrowly losing their first game 5-6 to Jerome, and then finishing with three impressive wins over Borah, Preston, and Ridgevue high schools.

Pitcher Madi Janicek laid down a nice bunt, reaching first on a Tigers error, followed by a line drive to center by Sophia Shirts to load the bases.

The Wolverines drew another blank in the top of the fifth, with the Indians adding one run in their half, putting the score close at 4-3 with Weiser in the lead.
