Weiser adds another win by outscoring Payette in each quarter

The Lady Wolverines are in the final two weeks of their season with only two home games left. They will be hosting McCall on Thursday, Jan. 18, and then they will have senior night on Friday, Jan. 26 against Fruitland. They hosted Homedale on Jan. 16, no score available at the time of printing. 
 In the game against the Payette Pirates on Friday, Jan. 12, Payette won the tip and with a fast break lay-in scored the first points of the night.

Weiser battles Fruitland in back and forth effort, but unable to bring it home

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Fruitland to play the Grizzlies. The highly anticipated contest ended in a heartbreaking 5-point loss for Weiser, 46 to 51. With only 18 seconds to go in the game, the Wolverines were only down by 2 points, but after trying to stop the clock and Fruitland making three of four free throws, the game ended with the Grizzlies up by 5 points at the final buzzer. 

Huge turnout for Red Paws Soccer Club

Weiser’s newly formed Red Paws Soccer Club saw a tremendous turnout on tryouts day at the Weiser Soccer Complex, Saturday, Jan. 6, with more than 100 players “and counting” signing up. 

Weiser Middle School recognizes honor students

Weiser Middle School students who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or above are listed on the second quarter honor roll which ended prior to the holiday break. 
 Honor students had a 3.0 to  3.79 GPA. and high honor students had a 3.8 to 4.0 GPA. Students making the honor roll are listed below:

2024 bluegrass and banjo camp set for June

Weiser is looking ahead to another hot bed of June music that will be sweetened up 10 days ahead of the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival with the 2024 Idaho Bluegrass and Banjo Camp June 6-9.
 Sponsored by the Idaho Bluegrass Association, registration is open now and with limited class sizes, early enrollment is encouraged. The four-day camp at Slocum Hall and its surrounding grounds features classes in banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and new to the curriculum this year, bass, plus classes in harmony, vocal, and songwriting.

Dyslexia presentation

 Empowering Families, Inc. will present a program on dyslexia on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Weiser Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Come learn about the characteristics of dyslexia, what schools are doing, and what to do when your child is a struggling reader. The speaker will be Kelley Phipps, BS SpEd/MEd Literacy Learning Specialist Education Consultant. For more information call 208-402-6482.

Books For Bikes reading project

 The Weiser Masonic Lodge is continuing its reading project with both Pioneer and Park schools called Books for Bikes. Students will be given a ticket for each book they read from now through the middle of May. There will be two winners in each school who will each win a gift certificate and a bike helmet. The lodge hopes that the program will improve reading.

School district programs featured at open houses

Weiser School District patrons will have a chance to learn more about the myriad of programs and resources available to students at an open house from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, in the Weiser High School auxiliary gym.
 Included in the evening event will be a spaghetti dinner served in a casual style so that attendees can eat while they visit each of the 18 informational booths.
