Weiser beats McCall 20-7, hands Vandals first loss of season

  Both teams were undefeated, but in the end, it was Weiser that retained its unbeaten status, emerging with a 20-7 victory over McCall on Friday.

Lady Wolverines are hitting their stride

 After winning three matches and tying one at Boise’s Rocky Mountain Tournament over the weekend of Sept. 22-23, Weiser’s Lady Wolverines volleyball team posted two conference wins last week over Homedale 3-0 and Fruitland 3-0.
 In Monday night’s match against Homedale, the Wolverines outscored the Lady Trojans 25-16, 25-15, and 25-20.
 Weiser’s Abi Wilkins is credited with one ace, a 2.4 rating in serve receive passing, and 14 kills. Danica Lockett served one ace, had one kill, and 15 assists.

Cross country teams place second and fourth

The Weiser High School cross country teams competed in the Rambler Lake Run on Thursday, Sept 28 in Cascade.  This was a smaller meet including four of the SRV teams. Weiser had several runners finish in the top 10, and performed well overall as a team. 
 “I am really excited that our team is getting so close to full strength. We’ve still got some improvements to make, but I see all of them putting in the effort to make those improvements,” Coach Scott Hale said. 

Regular season concludes, Wolverines prep for district playoffs

Weiser’s Wolverines varsity soccer team tied 0-0 with conference opponent Fruitland last Tuesday, Sept. 26, and took a narrow 2-1 loss to non-conference Nyssa Bulldogs on Thursday.
 In Tuesday’s draw at Fruitland, Weiser goaltender Shayd Crossley put up 12 saves against the determined Grizzlies offense. The Weiser High School sophomore has been a stalwart stand in for junior Diego Delgadillo the previous two and a-half weeks while he sufficiently recovered from a concussion.

Lady Wolverines preparing for district tournament

In a one-game week, Weiser’s Lady Wolverines soccer team (3-6) lost Tuesday’s, Sept. 26 home conference game against Fruitland (9-2-1) by a score of 5-2.
 The Wolverines were the first to score early in the game when Weiser’s Beth Phillips (28) netted her second shot on goal.
 Even with Weiser’s defense putting up a big challenge, the Grizzlies hammered away at the goal, taking 12 shots in the first half, scoring four, and adding another off a corner kick in the second half.

Ontario Community Church Harvest Bazaar

 On Sunday, Nov. 5 from noon to 3 p.m., Ontario Community Church, 240 SE 3rd St., Ontario, will host its annual Harvest Bazaar. Japanese and American food will be offered along with various crafts, pastries, gifts and fresh produce. A live auction will start at 2 p.m.

National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest community input meeting

 The National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival is inviting community members who are interested in helping with Weiser’s annual prestigious event to a community meeting at Slocum Hall on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. Board Presidents Gary Schuh and Gary Hill will be there to answer questions and listen to suggestions, with a plan to start a Community Committee for the upcoming 2024 National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest and Festival, June 17 through June 22.

Halloween Costume Bash

 The Weiser River Animal Shelter and Rescue will host a Halloween costume bash for everyone’s furry friends and humans. It is a costumed fundraiser that can net you some great prizes. The fun will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at City Park, next to the Washington County Courthouse. Pre-registration can be done online or the day of the event at 1 p.m. Cost will be $15 per adult and dog(s), $10 per child under 15 and $40 per family of three or more. Hillcrest Cemetery District commissioners to meet Oct. 16

 The Hillcrest Cemetery Maintenance District will have their regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m. at the district office located at 215 E. Indianhead Road. The meeting agenda will be posted at the cemetery district office.

Weiser Public Library book clubs

 The Weiser Public Libary will start the first series of book clubs. The elementary book club will start Oct. 11, the Let’s Talk About It series will begin Oct. 19, the high schoolers will start on Oct. 24 and middle school on Oct. 26.
