Idaho LAUNCH sets up 2024 high school seniors for success

Graduating high school seniors across Idaho now have a one-time opportunity to apply for a state-funded grant that will help pay for their postsecondary education expenses.
 Students who apply and are awarded could have 80 percent of their tuition and fees paid for after graduation in 2024, up to $8,000. The money is for students pursuing degrees and certifications in fields designated as “in-demand” and must enroll in apprenticeships, job training, community college, or university programs.

Hello everyone! It’s been a few weeks since you have heard from me. A lot has gone on. 
 For one thing, the Idaho Hospital Association held their annual conference in Sun Valley. Cathy went with me as she usually does and had a nice time. For me, it was mainly sitting in sessions and furiously taking notes as information was presented. What I learned was worthwhile and had application not only to the hospital, but much of it could be applied to managing the City as well. 

Cowboy Music and Poetry at the Star Theater

 The Star Theater in Weiser presents Cowboy Music and Poetry on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10, available at the door or online at www.illustriousonionskinplayers.org. Holiday Arts and Crafts Show to be held Nov. 3-4

 The Holiday Arts and Crafts Show will be Friday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Vendome Events Center, 309 State Street in Weiser. This holiday event is sponsored by the Four County Art Guild and the Weiser Friends of the Library. Hope to see you there.

Shamrock Club to hold Harvest Dinner Nov. 5

 The Shamrock Club’s annual Harvest Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic Jeffreys Schoolhouse at 1818 Weiser River Road. All proceeds go toward maintaining the 113-year-old school building. Meals include roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls, and homemade pies/dessert, which will also be for sale. Tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for kids 6-12, with 5 and under free.

Friends of Weiser Memorial Hospital pie sale

 The Friends of Weiser Memorial Hospital will have their pie sale on Friday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Weiser Christian Church, 1299 E. 2nd St. Please enter from parking lot on State St. Delicious pieces from local bakers will be $15 each.

Live candidates forum set for Oct. 18

 A live candidates forum will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Weiser Senior Activity Center, 115 E. Main St. The forum will feature City of Weiser and Weiser School District Zone 1 candidates. The event will be moderated by Patrick Nauman.

Max DeMoss, 69, of Weiser, Idaho passed away on Oct. 6, 2023 at his home in Weiser. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home.
