Veterans Day Programs at Weiser schools

 A Veterans Day program will be held at the Weiser High School at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. There will also be programs at the Middle School at 8:30 a.m., Park School at 1:30 p.m. and Pioneer at 2:15 pm.

Friends of the Hospital pie sale

The Friends of the Hospital semi-annual pie sale will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 starting at 9 a.m. at Guthberlet Hall, corner of East Liberty and First. There will be fresh and frozen pies available for $12 each.

Annex Charter School harvest dinner

Annex Charter School will have a Harvest Dinner and Auction on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the school located at 402 Annex Road. Tickets are $6 per person or $25 per family, children 4 and under are free. Come out and enjoy chili and baked potatoes with all the toppings, cornbread, drink and dessert. Veterans Outreach in Weiser

State Service Officer Jim Philpott, Idaho Division of Veterans Services, will be in town to answer questions about current veterans benefits, assist with ongoing claims and take new claims for benefits for eligible veterans. He will be at the Weiser VFW Hall, 405 E. Second St., on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Veterans wishing to set up an appointment for this Outreach should contact Washington County Service Officer at (208) 549-0226.

Veterans Day Lunch

The Weiser Elks Lodge will be serving lunch for Veterans Day on Sunday November 11. Lunch will consist of baked ham, potatoes, salad, a vegetable and dessert. 

Veterans and their spouse eat for free. Doors open at noon and program will begin at 12:30.

District 9 candidates discuss issues

The four candidates running for two seats in the Idaho House from District 9 attended a candidates forum on Monday evening sponsored by the Weiser Chamber of Commerce at the Vendome.
 Commitments elsewhere limited the number of candidates for state offices and audience members who showed up. 
 Local candidates for county offices, all of whom are unopposed in the Nov. 6 midterm election, also introduced themselves.

Voters to have say at polls on Nov. 6

Voters in Washington County will go to the polls next Tuesday to decide a number of political races and two ballot measures in the midterm election.
 Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all voting locations in Weiser, at Midvale City Hall and the Washington County fairgrounds exhibit hall in Cambridge.  
 Voters need to show an acceptable form of identification to cast a ballot.

BLM close to releasing draft land use plan that covers 250,000 acres in Washington County

The public will get the opportunity to comment on a BLM land use plan that covers 250,000 acres of public land in Washington County and has been years in the making.
 Brent Ralston, Four Rivers Field Office manager for the BLM, told county commissioners that management of local public lands by the BLM is currently directed by multiple plans. 
 The agency is working to consolidate those plans into one and release the document for a 90-day comment period in a few months, he said.

High school choir to sing at Veterans Day ceremony

The Gem State Fiddlers played during lunch on the first Wednesday of the month and will continue to do so on the first Wednesday of every month. 
 Our harvest dance and potluck on Oct. 13 was really great, and we all had so much fun and food. I do wish I could see some of you there this coming month. 
 We did have some newbies, and they said they had a wonderful time and would be back again. Yes, any age is welcome.

Weiser Community Church dedicates its new addition

The Weiser Community Church celebrated completion of a new 2,520 square-foot addition that includes classrooms and a nursery on the back of the main building on East Main Street.
 Pastor Steve Penner said the great thing about the much-needed addition is the church did it without taking on any debt. Church leaders were not going to start on the addition until the funds were raised, he said.
 “We were not going to build until we had the funding in hand,” he said.
