Cambridge School District Superintendent Ed Schumacher plans to return to teaching or counseling when his contract is up at the end of the current school year in June of 2019.
In addition to serving as superintendent of the school district, which has an enrollment of about 125 students, Schumacher is also the high school principal and a teacher in senior math and algebra 1. He has been the district’s superintendent since 2007.

The tax bill is in the mail (almost)

Homeowners and property owners in Washington County will be receiving their 2018 tax bills shortly in the mail.
The county treasurer’s office printed 9,206 bills and is getting them ready for mailing.
By law, the property tax bills must be mailed by Nov. 26 this year, but county treasurer Sabrina Young said they will be mailed before that date.
“We hope to have them in the mail by Nov. 9 or sooner,” she said.

Lots of activities coming up this month

November is an especially busy month in Weiser as the holiday season gets underway.
With the acrimonious midterm election behind us, we can look forward to activities that lift our spirits and bring us together.
No, engaging in the conspicuous consumption of  Black Friday shopping is not one of them.
Actually, Black Friday doorbusters at the mall and big box stores are a bit dated anymore. Black Friday will probably take a backseat to the growing popularity of CyberMonday.

A big thank you to all of our military veterans

As I write this column, election day is not over and we don’t know the outcome. Hopefully, we can move on in a more positive vain then after the last election.  It is time.
Congratulations to the Chamber and Weiser Business community for the great Halloween Spooktacular.
Having so much together for our kids will be a great new tradition to ensure a fun and safe night for our children and parents.
It was a little crisp but that doesn’t deter those princesses and super heroes as well as the rest of the characters and their families.

Election Results

Published by admin on Tue, 11/06/2018 - 11:20pm

Unofficial results from the midterm election in Washington County. There were predictable results in the heavily Republican county and some unpredictable results. County voters voted in favor of Prop. 1, the horse racing measure, which is not surprising in a rural area, although there are no race tracks locally that stand to benefit. In statewide voting the measure was losing on Tuesday night. Conservative Washington County surprisingly voted in favor of Prop. 2, the expansion of Medicaid, which was winning the statewide vote late Tuesday night.

Couldn't ask for a better Saturday

I spent the week finishing up caramel apple season at the shop. A little over 1,600 apples in six weeks.  There was many a 5 a.m. workday to get them done.  I need to thank Rich Brooke for his amazing apples and all that he does for the community.
Also last week, we dressed up and got to be kids again for one night with the Chamber of Commerce. The State Street Spooktacular was a great success and brought many kids downtown not only to the businesses but for the fun at the Vendome.
