Grace Arlene Stippich Grothaus

Grace Arlene Stippich Grothaus passed away on Feb. 1, 2020, at the age of 94.
 Arlene was born Jan. 22, 1926, to James and Pearle Stippich in Emmett, Idaho. She joined two sisters and a brother in the family.
 She was raised on family owned properties in Emmett, Letha, South Crane Creek, North Crane Creek and Long Valley.
 Arlene graduated as valedictorian of her eighth grade class in Letha. She attended high school in Emmett.
 In 1943 Arlene married LeRoy Grothaus.
 In 1948, Arlene and LeRoy began ranching and eventually bought the ranch on North Crane Creek from her parents. There they raised five children. Their home was always open to whoever needed a place to stay. Arlene was called “Mom” by many young people.
 Arlene worked on the ranch and always had a huge garden. She could grow anything, vegetables, flowers, and fruit. She loved animals and doctored and cared for any that were injured or sick. Also, Arlene was a wonderful cook and always had extra people at the table for meals. Her pies were excellent.
 In 1991 the ranch was sold and they moved to Weiser, Idaho. There Arlene opened a shop, The Silver Tree, where she sold silver jewelry and clothing.
 She had always wrote poetry and decided to put the poems in book form. Arlene published four books, the last one in 2019. She loved life, animals and people.
 Arlene leaves behind her children; Phyllis Qualls (Joe); Dave (Marilyn); Mary Ellen Leffler (Bill Richards); Bonnie Gibson (Lynn); and Jennifer Arreola. Fifteen grandchildren, many great-grands and great-great-grands.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy; sister, Maxine; husband LeRoy; son Joseph, and many friends.
 Arlene could brighten anyone’s day with a smile, laugh or a joke. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
 There will be a Celebration of Life for Arlene on March 28, 2020, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Weiser Senior Center.
