Applaud when government work

Dear Editor:
Contrary to what we hear or when speculation abounds, communication, process and transparency breed trust.
Case in point; current speculation is circulating concerning Washington County’s ability to manage growth in the area of future technology. In specific, data based centers and solar farms. This concern was brought to the Commissioners attention by citizens, hearing of an existing facility in town.
During regular session, the commissioners had a general discussion concerning the matter, including individual research information gleaned. Initial findings warranted a request to the P&Z administrator to craft a language framework, addressing possible code amendments that may manage future land use and operating conditions.
The results produced a start to the process. Added was the information concerning the possible influence of other governmental agencies and the maintenance of property rights. Forwarded to the County prosecutor, analyzed, a draft was returned for commission approval. A P&Z hearing date of July 22 was set and notice posted in the paper. Copies of the process update were sent to our State Senator and Representative.
Success is contagious. News of the hearing and draft copies have gone viral. Our P&Z administrator responded to a request for copies of the draft from a city council member in Mt. Home via the YouTube poster in Caldwell at Renegade Bait.
The process starts with you. Research, observe and ask questions of your local P&Z and government officials. Others will take control if you do not. Be vigilant in your request for information and documentation.
 Washington County Government bravo welldone.
