Response to recall article assertion

To the Editor:

 I am writing today regarding the March 19th Signal American article on the recall of Prosecuting Attorney True Pearce. I feel compelled to respond to a statement that was both inaccurate and insulting. The article claimed that “opponents must hope a huge number of Pearce voters only checked the box next to his name out of fear their ballots would not be counted.”

 This assertion is asinine. To imply that voters supported a candidate out of fear rather than judgment is dismissive, condescending, and frankly an insult to the people of this county. Reducing informed decisions to panic or ignorance doesn’t elevate the conversation – it cheapens it.

 What’s becoming increasingly clear is that some within the old guard of our local political circles are deeply uncomfortable with change. Instead of adapting or engaging in honest dialogue, they resort to implying that anyone who votes differently must be confused or uneducated. That fear of losing control is driving much of the tension we’re seeing, and it’s doing real damage to our community.

 Do better.
