Disc golf project is approved for development in 2026

Merry Christmas to you! I hope you have a wonderful and joyful Christmas whether you are gathered with friends and family or snuggled at home enjoying a good cup of coffee or cocoa. May you have a wonderful time!

 This past weekend Cathy and I attended the City Christmas party with all the employees, their spouses, and significant others. We enjoyed a good meal and good company. We also attended the grandsons’ last basketball games of the season where both of them played the best ball that they had all season. 

 Also, the youngest grandson came over on Sunday to finish up a project he had been working on with Grandma. The two of them had been working on a gingerbread house together. One side of the house got decorated when our grandson decided it was finished, leaving just frosting on the roof for the other side of the house. 

 Cathy and I then took him home and went out to dinner to watch some football. When we came home, I took a look at the gingerbread house. Half of the frosting was missing from the unfinished side. I then looked and, sure enough, one of the chairs was pulled away from the table. Our little dog had gotten onto the table while we were gone and helped herself. And yes! She definitely had a sugar buzz! 

 Now onto City business.

 Your City Clerk, Natasha McDaniel, is also involved in the Chamber of Commerce. She would like you to know that the Chamber is holding a Christmas Tree decorating contest for businesses and individuals. If you would like to decorate an entry, please contact Natasha or a local Chamber member for details. The entry fee is $20. The judging will be on Dec. 22, when a judge(s) will visit each location and decide on a winner to receive bragging rights and a traveling trophy. It sounds like fun and a great way to bring on the Holiday Spirit!

 Natasha also told me that the City had received funds from the LOR Foundation for a disc golf course as proposed by Weiser High School student, Max Lattin. The City will be working with Mr. Lattin and others to bring this idea to fruition in 2026. Good job Max in bringing this idea forward, getting approval from the City Council, and going through the steps to secure the funding. Excellent Work and thank you!

 One of the LOR Foundation’s requirements for a grant is that a government entity or a non-profit be the submitting and administrative organization for a LOR funded project. However, Mr. Lattin’s project is a perfect example of how you as an individual can have your community improvement ideas funded by LOR. 

 Please, if you have any idea(s) on improving the community, bring it forward. If your idea can be funded for less than $30,000, contact Natasha at City Hall. She will be more than happy to help you flesh out the idea, figure out pricing, and help with submitting the grant application to LOR.

 It is only when we pool ideas that we get the best solutions to problems. So, please, let us know what you are thinking. Weiser has an absolutely amazing opportunity with the LOR Foundation. LOR is willing to literally provide millions of dollars to improve Weiser with no strings attached. But, if we do not come forward with ideas and projects, the funds will dry up. Please, as a community, let’s take advantage of this incredible, incredible, incredible unsolicited generosity and make Weiser an even better place to live, work, and play.
