Eight-year-old Isley Dietrich claimed her second Small Fry fiddling championship during the 2025 opening night of the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest on Monday, June 16.
Isley’s final three fiddle tunes were Tom and Jerry for her hoedown, Festival Waltz, and Crafton Blues for her tune of choice.
It’s likely Isley has been attending the NOTFC her entire life, following in the footsteps of her fiddling siblings, older sisters Madi, Ranelle, Brie, and Aspen, and brother Sawyer. Sawyer is two years older than her, and the two will compete against each other again next year when she moves into the Junior-Junior division, which holds 9-12 year-olds.
Isley spends a lot of time fiddling and singing, occasionally joining Ranelle, Brie, Aspen and Sawyer on stage when they’re performing in their band The Arizona Wildflowers. Along with fiddling, Isley loves riding her horse, Black Beauty, and the two have won their fair share of rodeo competitions the past couple of years, as well.
Isley also contested in the U17 Swing Division, and is spending time cheering on her siblings as they compete in their divisions.
