Nina Christine Carlow

Nina Christine Carlow, 72, of Weiser, Idaho and New York City passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2025. 

 Nina was born on Sept. 21, 1953, in Caldwell, Idaho, to Stan Carlow and Betty Stanford Carlow Lacey. She was raised in Weiser and Midvale, Idaho.

 After graduating as Valedictorian from Midvale High School, Nina set off for college at the University of Idaho. She worked to put herself through school and later graduated from Washington State University with a degree in English Literature. 

 Nina’s dream was to go to law school. She had always wanted to live in The Big Apple. And so, she did. She put herself through law school by working nights and weekends. In her last year of law school, she had an internship with the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. She enjoyed it and after graduation was hired permanently. 

 Nina worked there nearly 50 years, moving up the ladder and serving in numerous divisions. She was proud of her work and spoke highly of her colleagues in the DA’s office. Retirement came in July, 2025. 

 While living in New York, Nina often hosted friends and family, and always showed them the places that were special to her, as well as the “regular” places. It was always a fun time with Nina.

 Nina cared deeply about her family, her community and the world, donating to causes that were important to her. She worked quietly to help with social causes or assist family and friends with various problems. She took care of her sister, Mary, and her mother, Betty, just as Mary and Betty took care of Nina when she was ill. 

 Time with cousins was important to the Carlows and many of them lived near Weiser, so getting together was common. 

 A favorite trip for Nina, Mary and Betty was to visit the homestead in Jordan Valley where Betty grew up.

 Nina was a musician and a member of the University of Idaho marching band when she was in college. She appreciated music of all genres and was as content to listen to the fiddle music on the streets of Weiser as she was to attend a classical music concert at Carnegie Hall.

 Nina was a voracious reader. Her knowledge of current events, history, and culture left many feeling envious of her intellect. She was “book smart” and “street smart.” She was witty and laughed easily. Spending time with her was certain to be filled with fun. 

 She will be missed by her sister, Mary Carlow, her cousins, and her many friends.

 Nina is survived by her sister, Mary, stepbrother Tyrone Lacey and first cousins Vikki, Toni, Robin, Louise, Paul, Dennis, Mike, Dee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty and her father, Stan.
