Eclectic visual charm is what makes Weiser special
Dear Editor,
I hear a word bantered about frequently. The word? Californication.
I escaped that place 12 years ago. I’m here to tell you, lest you think it can’t happen in Weiser, watch out! It’s coming to a town near you.
This past week the paper reported the City Council in Weiser approved a 21-page “New Landscaping Ordinance” amending the Title 10 Zoning Regulations for the city.
“It consists of language defining purpose and landscaping definitions, specifying requirements and minimum design standards, and misdemeanor penalties for violations.”
What? Violations? How did Weiser’s ambiance ever survive prior to this new regulation taking place?
One of the many charms I find in Weiser is the eclectic visual as I drive thru town. If I wanted uniform conformity I would have moved to Boise!
I come from a place where the small town I grew up in morphed into a regulatory behemoth that had more city rules than the average Boise HOA. Parking a trailer in front of a house was forbidden throughout the city!
Let’s smarten up. This is a very slippery slope. We have a hard enough time getting businesses to thrive in Weiser and now we are adding yet one more regulatory step for anyone to build in our fair town. This is preposterous! I am so disappointed. Watch out froggies…the water is slowly heating up.
