Caring for our community through service and stewardship

I would like to take this opportunity to update our residents on a few important matters affecting our community.

 First, I want to address our garbage collection service. Due to mechanical issues with our garbage trucks, a shortage of drivers, and the challenges that come with holiday schedules, we have struggled at times to service all dumpsters twice each week. Please know that our staff is working hard to provide the best service possible under these circumstances. We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have concerns or questions, please contact either myself or Mike Campbell, and we will do our best to assist you.

 The City Council and staff are also hard at work preparing next year’s budget, which begins Oct. 1. Our fiscal year ends Sept. 30, and with the help of our dedicated staff, we are developing a budget that will be presented to the public during a public hearing in August or September.

 Your City Council members are actively involved in serving our community. Larry Hogg, Katie von Brethorst, are currently serving in the third year of their four-year terms. Steve Fenske, John Srholec, and Lisa Horzen are serving in the first year of their four-year terms. Joe Vaughn is in his first year of a two-year term.

 Council members serve on a variety of committees, including Public Safety, Public Services, Facilities and Finance, Zoning, and Economic Development. They also represent the city on several boards and committees, including Historic Preservation, the Airport Board, the Library Board, and the Tree Committee. Their dedication and volunteer service are greatly appreciated.

 I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the parade, food, music, and festivities during the Fiddlers Festival. Thank you to the many volunteers whose hard work and dedication helped make this long-standing tradition another great success.

 I am also looking forward to our upcoming America250 celebration. We hope to have a strong turnout from our veterans for the march. Transportation will be available for anyone who would like to participate but may not be able to complete the march on foot.

 Reminder: Starting July 13, County Road 70 will be closed at the city limits for about a week.
