A busy and memorable summer in Weiser
By:
Mayor Herb Haun
Summer has been a busy and exciting season here in Weiser!
Our Recreation Department has kept families active with T-ball, track, baseball, swimming lessons, and the swim team. With the warm weather, the city pool has become a favorite gathering place for residents of all ages.
We recently celebrated another successful Fiddlers’ Week, featuring the fiddle contest, parade, and festival. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, and helped make this cherished tradition such a success.
Our Fourth of July celebration was another highlight of the summer. Many residents described this year’s fireworks display as the best Weiser has ever seen. The Veterans parade, flag ceremony, free community breakfast, and community barbecue made for a wonderful day of celebrating both our nation and our community. Thank you to everyone who helped organize and participate in these events.
After 25 years of serving our community, the Weiser Police Department’s After School Program will close on July 31. This was a difficult decision, but with declining enrollment and the availability of another outstanding program, we believe we can better serve our youth by supporting the Boys and Girls Club. We are grateful that the need our Police Department stepped in to meet 25 years ago can now be fulfilled by an organization whose primary mission is serving young people.
If you have questions about the Boys and Girls Club, please contact Operations Director Serene Hooper at serene@bgcwtv.org or (541) 889-7979.
Looking ahead, the Weiser Valley Roundup will take place July 9-11. It is always an outstanding event and a great opportunity for residents and visitors alike to enjoy one of our community’s favorite traditions.
County Road 70 will be closed at the city limits beginning July 13 while crews install a water line beneath the railroad tracks to provide service to the 9th Street area. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete these important infrastructure improvements.
As we move into the hottest part of the summer, please remember to stay hydrated, look out for your neighbors, and stay safe in the heat.
Thank you for being part of what makes Weiser such a wonderful place to live. I hope you and your family continue to enjoy a safe and memorable summer.
