Judge dismisses claims against former officials

Third District Judge Davis VanderVelde has dismissed all remaining claims against former Washington County prosecutor Delton Walker and former county commissioner Lyndon Haines, effectively ending the litigation against both men in a long running dispute over land use decisions and access along Gentry Lane.

County finances stable, reserves strong

Washington County received a positive financial review during its annual audit presentation on Feb. 2. Independent auditor Kurt Folke of Quest CPAs reported that the county ended the 2025 fiscal year in a strong position and with healthy reserves across all major funds.
 Folke briefed the Board of County Commissioners on the results of the audit, which included three required reports: the financial statement audit, the internal controls and compliance review, and the federal single audit report. All three came back clean.

A new mayor, but a familiar face

Weiser has a new mayor, but anyone who has regularly attended city council meetings over the past several years will be accustomed to seeing him in the center seat. 
 Herb Haun was appointed to replace Mayor Randy Hibberd, who resigned after six years in office when long-running health issues forced him to take a prolonged leave of absence.
 As acknowledged at previous meetings, Hibberd is awaiting a kidney transplant, which requires the 70-year-old to isolate himself.

 The bill count in the 2026 Idaho Legislature mounted to 182 in the House and 76 in the Senate by the end of the day, Friday, Feb. 13.

Wastewater plant protects health, environment

The Weiser Wastewater Treatment Plant plays a critical role in protecting our community’s health and environment. The facility is built to handle a hydraulic average capacity of 2.4 million gallons of wastewater per day, ensuring that the water processed meets or exceeds strict EPA and Idaho DEQ standards before it is released back into the environment. 

Weiser FFA community appreciation breakfast to be held Feb. 21

 The Weiser Chapter of Future Farmers of America will have their annual community appreciation breakfast. This breakfast is free. It will be held Saturday, Feb 21 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Ag shop located behind the high school.

Angel Riders to have pie sale on March 14

 Angel Wings Network’s Angel Riders will have a pie sale on March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their office located at 773 W. Main St. Choose from a variety of pies and other desserts. Weiser Elks Lodge chili cookoff

 The Weiser Elks Lodge will have a chili cookoff on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The all you can eat chili is $8. Add a piece of cornbread for $2.

Maria Del Rosario Ixta (Chayo)

Our beloved Maria Del Rosario Ixta (Chayo) was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026.  
 She was born to Maria Paz and Ramiro Ixta on May 12, 1967 in Michoacan, Mexico. Growing up she went to a Catholic School and Church called Our Lady Queen of Angels in Los Angeles, Calif. 
 She was a born leader and helped care for all of the other children in the family. She was always filled with mischief, and sometimes she was able to convince the other kids to do things she knew they shouldn’t.
