Last weekend Cathy and I had the pleasure of once again having our grandsons spend the night. Due to some health issues on my part, we had been unable to spend time with them for several weeks there, the same several weeks that I did not write for this paper.  The evening had started out as a family paint and sip and then turned into an impromptu overnight stay.

Dear Editor:
 The people urging you to vote no on Proposition 1 think you’re too stupid to count to four. Alaskans used ranked-choice voting, and 85 percent of voters said it was simple. But Prop. l opponents think you’re too stupid to select your favorite candidate in an open primary and then rank your choices among the top four in the general election.

 Proposition 1: Open Primaries will correct Idaho’s current Closed Primary “problem”. Under our current closed primaries over 275,000 tax-paying Idahoans are blocked from voting in taxpayer-funded primary elections because they don’t belong to a political party! 

Lions clubs make an impact on your community

Dear Editor:
 The Weiser and Midvale Lions clubs are part of Lions International with over 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs internationally. 
 These clubs are known for the number of local projects, such as, the annual Election Day chili feed by the Midvale Lions and the vision screenings completed in area school districts every year by both clubs.
 Lions clubs in Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon had an impact on over 100,000 people in our last fiscal year. 

Ontario Community Church Harvest Bazaar

 The Ontario Community Church, 240 SE 3rd St., will have their annual Harvest Bazaar on Sunday, Nov. 3 starting at noon. There will be a live auction, traditional Japanese and American food, fun games for children, crafts and gifts.

Shamrock Club Harvest Dinner

 Shamrock Club’s annual Harvest Dinner will be held Sunday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jeffreys School House, 1818 Weiser River Road. All proceeds will go towards maintaining the 114-year-old school building. The meal will include roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and homemade pies/dessert. Cost is $14 adults, $7 kids 6-12 and under 5 free.

Erma S. McLean

 Erma S. McLean of Hermiston, Ore., was born on Oct. 15, 1934 in Weiser, Idaho to parents, Frank and Alta Sinden. She died on Oct. 7, 2024 in Hermiston, Ore., at the age of 89 years. 
 Erma was raised on a small farm outside of Weiser until the third grade when her family moved into town. She graduated from Weiser High School where she played the clarinet and was a member of the marching band. 
 Erma was a Apple Blossom Princess, riding in a convertible in the parade.
