Juan F. Huerta, 86, passed away peacefully at Weiser Care of Cascadia in Weiser, Idaho, on June 7, 2023. Rejoicing in Heaven with his family lovingly by his side.
 He was born in Eagle Pass, Tex. on Jan. 27, 1937, to Alejandro and Francisca Huerta. He lived his young life with his 10 siblings. 
 He met his wife Delfina and they married on Feb. 1, 1959. They later moved to Weiser, Idaho where they established their roots and raised their family.

Elks to hold Flag Day Ceremony tonight

 Weiser Elks Lodge No.1683 is holding a flag ceremony on Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. in celebration of Flag Day. Hot dogs and chips will be provided at the lodge, located at 38 W. Idaho St. in Weiser. For more information, call Dick Sullender at (626) 602-5448.

Fireworks Breakfast this weekend

 A breakfast to raise funds for the Fourth of July public fireworks display is being held this Saturday, June 17 from 8-11 a.m. at the Weiser Elks Lodge, located at 38 W. Idaho St. in Weiser. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausages, and hashbrowns are on the menu, as well as orange juice and coffee. Guests are asked to make a donation of their choice, but organizers are hoping to get a minimum of $10 per attendee. There will also be raffle items and a silent auction. Checks can be made out to the City of Weiser. For more information, contact city hall at (208) 414-1965.

Man shoots at Hells Canyon power facilities

On Thursday, June 8, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shooting at power generating facilities in the Hells Canyon Corridor.
 At 12:26 a.m. on Friday, June 9, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was advised by Idaho Power security personnel of gunshots at the Brownlee Power Plant. A description of an individual on a motorcycle heading east on Highway 71 was relayed.
 Randy Vail, 58, of Meridian, was later identified as the suspect.

Weiser Memorial receives advanced MRI scanner

 It was Christmas in June for Weiser Memorial Hospital last week.
 The critical care facility received a new MRI scanner that has a wider opening for patients and possesses the latest technology in medical imaging.
 The MRI, and the modular that contains it, rolled in on a flatbed trailer from North Carolina on Monday, June 5.
