Hoop Shoot winners advance to districts

 The 51st annual Elks Hoop Shoot was held Saturday, Jan. 14 at Weiser Middle School. 
 As always, the long-time event drew the best basketball free-throw shooters from Weiser and beyond.
The competition was split between boys and girls, with age groups consisting of 8-9 years of age, 10-11, and 12-13.

New ambulance added to district inventory

 It was two years in the making, and extreme weather threatened further delay.
 
The Weiser Ambulance District nonetheless recently received a special delivery that rounds out its fleet of ambulances.
 “We are stoked!” Director Luke Smith said last week as he circled around the district’s newest addition.

Mardi Gras dinner sold out

 
 St. Agnes Fat Tuesday Dinner Auction scheduled for Feb. 21 is now sold out. Admission is by ticket only. No tickets will be available at the door. Organizers would like to thank the community in advance for its wonderful support of this event.

Square dance lessons

Square dance lessons
 Do you want to learn how to square dance. Lessons will be held on Tuesday at the Weiser Activity Center for Seniors, 115 E. Main, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. New dancers will be accepted through Jan. 24. The first night is free. For more information contact Bosco Bosler at 208-550-0327.

Soup Kitchen 2023

 Soup Kitchen 2023
 St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will have their annual soup lunches beginning Thursday, Jan. 12. The meals are served Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the middle of March. Come for fellowship and free food.

June Lattimore

June Lattimore 
 Our mom, June Lattimore, passed away on Jan. 5, 2023 at the age of 88 in Weiser, Idaho. 
 She was a wonderful mother and we will miss her smile, pies, stories, kindness and gentleness.
 She was born to Clell and Delpha Williamson, Mann Creek, on April 8, 1934.

 Cari LaDell Dickerson Pierson was born Oct. 30, 1956 in Weiser, Washington County, Idaho, to
Thomas Cyrus Dickerson Jr. and Corrinne Thurston. 
 Cari is survived by her brother, Thomas Cyrus
Dickerson III, (Tommy). 
 She was preceded in death by her Mother on Aug. 1, 1975, her Father, Oct.
21, 2022 and her husband, Bill Pierson, June 22, 2018. 
 She grew up in Weiser with a couple years in Grants, New Mexico.

 Renee Edwards was often larger than life. Born on March 10, 1942, her adventures began with her growing up years traveling many places with her family. 
 She spent many of those years in Baker City, Ore., where she anchored her adult life and many relationships in her community. 

Man leads police on high speed chase

On Thursday, Jan. 5, police were led on a high speed chase through Weiser that reached up to 80 miles per hour.
 The chase occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. during an attempted routine traffic stop in the area of Highway 95 and Indianhead Road. The man, 35, was alone in a small, silver car when he decided to elude a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy. He eventually turned south and then back east on Idaho Street where he sped by the Weiser Signal American newspaper office.
