Have you ever wondered how school mascots came about? According to Angel Spivey, mascots date back at least to the Civil War where regiments began adopting mascots as a way to represent all that they believed to be good about their organization.
Most of these mascots were live animals, like dogs and eagles, which were named and traveled with the regiments into battle. After the war, collegiate sports emerged and the use of mascots carried on the tradition that we enjoy today.

Brunch for Babies to benefit the Idaho Diaper Bank will take place on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, located at 214 E. Liberty St. in Weiser.
IDB provides diapers to partnering agencies across southern Idaho to distribute to families and babies in need.
A hidden consequence of poverty is diaper need and the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep babies clean, dry and healthy. This is a problem that affects one in three American families, and no state is immune.
