Wrestling team hosts SRV dual against Payette

by Katie von Brethorst
Weiser hosted Payette this past Wednesday, Feb. 9 for the last SRV dual and senior night.
In total the Wolverines honored 12 seniors including two statistician girls. Only five seniors were able to wrestle for the night due to forfeits, but it was a night to show honor and respect especially to those who have spent all four years of high school in the wrestling room.
Weiser has a storied wrestling program with many individuals who have moved on over the years to wrestle in college and beyond, including head coach Drew Dickerson. This is due in part to the great kid’s program that is offered to kids as little as 5-6 years of age and the great coaches in middle school and high school.
Wrestling is one of those few sports where you don’t really have to have equipment as many of the senior moms would attest to wrestling matches in the middle of kitchens and living rooms at home. Sometime it is the family feel of the wrestling community that kids are drawn to.
Head Coach Drew Dickerson has had some of these kids through all of the wrestling programs that Weiser has to offer.
“I am proud of these young men. We have 10 seniors this year and many of them have been four-year returners for me and have put in the miles and the work. I hope they have learned to be better men, teammates, and how to work hard during their time with us in the wrestling room and in the future,” Dickerson said.
Seniors honored during the night were Rafael Delgadillo, Jace Buescher, Clayton Beesley, Malachi Hoobery, Rylee Willet, Jesse Lockett, Bryan Bottomley, Oscar Cruz, Aemon Keegan, Calvin Clapperton, Madi Cobb, and Shae Kunz.
“These senior lady stat girls have kept these young men and our coaching staff in line and know their jobs well. I wish them nothing but success,” Dickerson added.
Weiser won the dual 69-15 giving up one forfeit and two matches on the night.
 Individual results for Weiser were:
Andrew Sudderth, 98, win by forfeit.
Rafael Delgadillo, 113, loss by fall.
Luke Sarich, 120, win by forfeit.
Aemon Keegan, 126, win by fall.
Kash Cobb, 132, loss by decision.
Jace Buescher, 138, win by fall.
Stockton Young, 145, win by forfeit.
Aaron Despain, 152, win by fall.
Bryan Bottomly, 160, win by forfeit.
Willie Sudderth, 170, win by forfeit.
Trenton Hawker, 182, win by forfeit.
Kaleb Grove, 195, win by decision.
Rylee Willet, 220, win by forfeit.
Jesse Lockett, 285, win by fall.
Weiser also won eight out of 10 extra matches that were wrestled and adds some foreshadowing to how Weiser will compete next year.
Weiser will take this week off and will travel to McCall on Saturday, Feb. 19 for District competition. District competition will prove to be tough facing all of the SRV teams, but Weiser will put up a great fight to win.
