Wolverines overpower Cole Valley in five, 13-3

The Lady Wolverines varsity softball team defeated Cole Valley Christian in a 13-3, five-inning blow-out Thursday, April 14.
 The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but couldn’t get any offensive traction in the next three. They did score one more run in the top of the fifth when centerfielder M. Wagner scored from third on a passed ball. 
 Weiser had two big innings, chalking up four runs in the third and six in the fourth, while holding the Chargers to four at-bats both innings.
 A bunt by Abi Wilkins, plus a throwing error from Cole Valley’s pitcher to the catcher scored Tobie Noyer and Whitney Cordes, moved Weiser to a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Between the second and third out, Taylor Bushong singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Wilkins and Mecarte Olsen, and expanding the lead to 5-2.
 In the bottom of the fifth, runners were on second and third when T. Noyer hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Ivy Morris and courtesy runner Macy Maloney. Bases were reloaded after an error and two walks. Annabelle Mattson doubled on a line drive to right field. Olsen and Paisley Noyer scored, and Wilkins scored on a throwing error to the catcher. Next at bat, Bushong tripled, sending Mattson home.
 Going into the fifth, the Wolverines were ahead 11-2, but  bases were loaded when Abi Wilkins was walked, scoring Maloney. Mattson was out on a sacrifice fly in the next at bat, scoring T. Noyer and triggering the 10-run rule that ended the game with the 13-3 Weiser win.
 The Wolverines had 10  hits for 13 runs. Bushong led at the plate, going 3-for-3, as well as notching 4 RBIs. Mattson recorded 3 RBIs, and Wilkins and T. Noyer had 2 each.
 Mattson started in the circle for Weiser, going three innings, striking out one, and allowing three hits and two runs. Cordes pitched two, allowing one hit and one run, and striking out one.
