Weiser tracksters heading to state competition

Athletes for the Weiser High School boys’ and girls’ track teams recently qualified for the 3A Idaho State Track Championships to be held Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, at Middleton High School.
 At the district competition held last weekend, the Weiser boys’ team finished fifth behind Fruitland, McCall-Donnelly, Homedale, and Payette. The girls took third behind Fruitland and McCall-Donnelly.
 Individual competitors finishing sixth or higher qualified for this weekend’s state meet.

 Here are the full results for the district meet:
 In the 200 meters, Xander Gray came in sixth at 24.50 seconds and Michael Youngberg was seventh with 25.26 seconds. Colton Foster took third in the 400 meters with a time of 53.26 seconds. Josh Kelley took seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.49. Kelley also came in eighth in the 1600 meters at 5:06.88.
 For the 110 meter hurdles, Marco Garcia came in seventh at 19.5 seconds.   
 Weiser took fourth in the 4x100 relay with the team of Ben Briggs, Alex Magana, Riggin Roberts and Colyer Chandler. Their time was 48.69 seconds. 
 Running the 4x200 Colton Foster, Michael Youngberg, Toren Walker and Brayden Walker placed fifth with a time of 1:37.86. Foster, Youngberg, T. Walker and B. Walker took third place in the 4x400 relay as well with a time of 3:41.08. 
 Weiser was fifth in the Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 4:24.44. Ben Briggs, Alex Magana, Ryan Youngberg and Judah Parsons ran the relay for Weiser.
 For shot put Tristan McMahill came in first with a throw of 45 feet 1 inche and Daniel Rodriguez was sixth with a distance of 38 feet 3 inches. Rodriguez placed third for discus with a distance of 119 feet 6 inches and Trenton Hawker came in seventh at 111 feet 1 inch. 
 Wolverines, Toren Walker and Xander Gray placed sixth and seventh respectively in the high jump. Walker had a jump of 5 feet 8 inches and Gray jumped 5 feet 6 inches.
 Three Wolverine men qualified in the long jump. Xander Gray in third with a jump of 19 feet, Marco Garcia in seventh with 17 feet 10.5 inches and Colyer Chandler in eighth at 17 feet 4 inches.
 For Weiser’s varsity women, Kailee Lerew took second in the 200 meters at 27.47 seconds and Kamryn Doty was eighth at 28.73 seconds. Mattie Shirts and Lerew took the number one and two finishes in the 400 meters. Shirts finished with a time of 1:00.41 and Larew came in at 1:00.75.
 Kylee Quinton came in second for the 800 meters. Her time was 2:18.38. Quinton also took second in the 1600 meters. Her time was 5:40.83 and freshman Ella Terry finished in seventh at 6:23.34. 
 Sarah Henderson took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.78 seconds.
 Weiser took fourth place in the 4x100 relay with the team of Emily Christopherson, Kamryn Doty, Shayla Kelley, and Shae Kunz. Their time was 53.63 seconds. 
 A time of 1:50.75 gave the Wolverines first place in the 4x200 relay. Running for Weiser was Kailee Lerew, Kate Davies, Shae Kunz, and Mattie Shirts. 
 In the 4x400 Lerew, Quinton, Davies and Shirts ended in first place with a time of 4:11.26.
 Weiser varsity girls were second in the Sprint Medley Relay.  Kunz, Doty, Davies and Quinton ran the race in 1:55.71.
 Josie Cervantes and Hailey Eames took sixth and seventh in the women’s shot put. Cervantes had a throw of 27 feet 2 inches and Eames threw 26 feet 9 inches. 
 Matlin Wolery came in third for discus with a distance of 94 feet 0.5 inches followed by Whitney Turner in fifth with 83 feet 2 inches. 
 Kamryn Doty was sixth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet 6 inches and Shae Kunz came in third for pole vault at 9 feet.
 For long jump, Samantha Despain was fifth with 15 feet 3.5 inches and Ashlyn Walker took seventh at 15 feet. 
 Shirts took second in the triple jump to finish out the scoring for Weiser. She had a jump of 34 feet 1.5 inches.
