Weiser schools to remain on four-days a week schedule

The Weiser School District Board of Trustees met Feb. 10 and made decisions regarding the four-day school week and changes on requirements for Weiser High School senior projects.
 Two surveys have been previously distributed, one to parents and one to teachers. The parents’ survey asked for responses on a variety of topics, including resources parents could use and whether the school district should return to a five-day week schedule.
 The survey included two sections, with the “yes-or-no” answer section leaning toward returning to a full-week schedule, said Superintendent Wade Wilson. However, in a space provided for parents to add comments at the end of the survey several responses were given imploring the board to remain on a four-day school week at least to the end of the year.
 The same question was proposed to school staff on the teacher survey, with more than half of responses answering to remain on a four-day schedule.
 The extra day has allowed for buffer time throughout the week to provide the best instruction for all students as well as giving a reprieve as the combination of online and in-person learning has been a difficult process, said Wilson.
 Along with the combined information provided by the surveys, the board chose to remain with the current four-day school week until further notice.
 As well as the decision of the school week, the board discussed and voted on a motion regarding the current requirements for the Weiser High School senior project.
 In December 2020, the Weiser High School English department submitted a request to adjust the project with the proposal being presented to the board during their meeting. The adjustments proposed were summarized as very similar to the already implemented requirements, however add an extra emphasis to the community service aspect and how the service will then tie into the senior’s future career.
 The proposed adjustments were brought to motion and passed by the school board at their Wednesday meeting.
