Weiser pounds Parma 57-0, rolls to 7-1 record

In their first road game in three weeks, the Wolverines marched into Parma on Friday, handing the Panthers a 57-0 loss.
Parma now drops to 1-5 while Weiser improves to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in SRV conference standings.
Also on Friday, Fruitland, which will be Weiser’s final opponent of the regular season, fell 42-14 to conference powerhouse Homedale. The Trojans beat the Wolverines 21-7 on Oct. 7, the team’s only loss of the season.
Fruitland is now 4-4 overall, with a 3-1 conference record. Conference wins include Payette (42-14), Parma (56-6), and McCall-Donnelly (20-12), all teams that Weiser beat handily.
On Friday, the Wolverines made hay primarily on the ground, sophomore Xander Gray starting the night off with a 35-yard touchdown run just over two minutes into the game. A couple minutes later, it was junior Brock Spencer on a 3-yard run for a touchdown.
Spencer wasn’t finished, however, scoring on a 10-yard run with 1:26 remaining in the first quarter.
One minute into the second, it was senior Malakye Scott taking the ball into the endzone from the 15-yard line.
Weiser then attacked from the air, senior quarterback Andrew Enders hitting senior receiver Brayden Walker for a 20-yard touchdown, giving the Wolverines a 35-0 lead, with 8:17 left in the second quarter.
A fumble on the ensuing kickoff turned the ball back over to Weiser, Enders throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to junior Jack Shirts, who turned around and threw a pass of his own to senior tight end Thomas Johnson for the two-point conversion and the 43-0 lead.
The Weiser coaching staff began rotating the bench at this point, sophomore Kolin Cook completing a pass to senior Tre Crockett for a 45-yard touchdown, with 4:37 left in the third quarter. The Wolverines would post one more score, this time on a 1-yard run by sophomore running back Kash Cobb, giving Weiser the 57-0 advantage with 4:10 left in the game.
Weiser generated a total of 362 yards of offense, with 140 yards passing and 222 rushing yards. Enders went 5 of 6 for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Cook 1 of 1 for 45 yards and 1 touchdown.
Senior Michael Youngberg led the team in rushing with 1 run for 40 yards. Junior Carter Jensen had 1 run for 36 yards, and Gray had 1 run for 35 yards and 1 touchdown. Spencer recorded 4 runs for 33 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Cobb had 5 attempts for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Scott had 2 runs for 15 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Walker led all receivers with 2 receptions for 50 yards and 1 touchdown. Crockett caught 1 pass for 45 yards and a touchdown. Scott had 1 reception for 26 yards, and Shirts had 1 reception for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Junior kicker Ryndon Olsen was good on all seven of his point-after attempts.
The Wolverine defense performed as expected, notching its fourth shutout of the season. Cobb recorded 6 total tackles, with 2 solos and 8 assists. Senior Maddox Stevens recorded a total of 4 tackles, with 3 solos. Shirts had a total of 3.5 tackles and 3 solos, with Carter matching those numbers.
Homedale (7-1, 4-0) remains the No. 1 team in 3A SRV Conference standings, with Weiser (7-1, 3-1) tied for the No. 2 spot with Fruitland (4-4, 3-1), according to WMH Athletic Director Tyler Grant. The Wolverines will play the Grizzlies in Fruitland on Friday, Oct. 20. Game time is 7 p.m.
