Weiser places third at home meet

On Thursday, April 21, the Wolverine track teams hosted their annual Weiser Invite track meet. Weiser competed against 12 other teams ending the day in third place for both the men’s and women’s teams. The Weiser women earned their third-place spot with a team score of 90.5 points and the men had a score of 88 team points.
 Melba High School girls placed first with a team score of 163 followed by Fruitland High School in second with 107.5 points. For the boys, Fruitland High School took first place with 130.5 points and second went to Melba High School with 119 points.
 Michael Youngberg placed tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.43 seconds, a personal best for him. 
 Xander Gray and Colton Foster came in fourth and fifth respectively in the 400 meters. Gray came in with a time of 55.12 seconds and Foster with 55.64 seconds.
 Weiser freshman Josh Kelley took fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.65. He also took third in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:07.50.
 Brayden Walker took first in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. His times were 43.51 in the 300 meters and 16.93 in the 110 meters.  
 In the 4x100 relay the Weiser boys’ team of Ben Briggs, Alex Magana, Santiago Perez and Riggin Roberts finished with a time of 49.79 seconds putting them in seventh place.
 Weiser took first place in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:37.20. Running the 4x200 was Foster, Youngberg, Toren Walker, and Brayden Walker. They also came in second place for the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:43.52.
 Weiser was fourth in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:28.18. Briggs, Magana, Colyer Chandler and Judah Parsons ran the relay for Weiser.
 Tristan McMahill of Weiser placed third for shot put with a throw of 40 feet 8.5 inches and Daniel Rodriguez placed fifth with 39 feet 0.5 inches. Rodriguez also placed fourth for discus with a distance of 106 feet 9 inches. 
 Two Wolverines, Toren Walker and Gray, tied for sixth place in the high jump with jumps of 5 feet 4 inches.
 For pole vault, Gray and Ryan Ellingson tied for seventh at 9 feet and Lee Winegar tied Kaden Ashliman of Homedale for tenth place at 8 feet.
 Gray took third in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet 1.5 inches. Kian Hartley placed tenth with a jump of 17 feet 6 inches. 
 Hartley also placed ninth in the triple jump at 34 feet 8.5 inches.
 Weiser varsity women had a good day on their home track. Mattie Shirts took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.89 and Callee Foster came in tenth with 1:10.28.
 Kylee Quinton came in first for the 800 meters. Her time was 2:21.63. In the 1600, Roma Walker came in ninth with a time of 6:27.93. 
 For the 100-meter hurdles, Weiser’s Sarah Henderson came in sixth with 19.91 seconds. Quinton took second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.95 seconds and Henderson was seventh with 57.21 seconds.
 Weiser took third place in the 4x100 relay with the team of Emily Christopherson, Kamryn Doty, Ashlyn Walker, and Shae Kunz. Their time was 55.19 seconds. A second Weiser team placed sixth with 56.83 seconds. Running was Henderson, Shayla Kelley, Melanie Chavez, and Sarah Sotelo.
 A time of 1:54.30 gave the Wolverines second place in the 4x200 relay. Running for Weiser was Kunz, Kate Davies, Doty and Shirts.
 In the 4x400 Quinton, Foster, Davies and Shirts ended in first place with a time of 4:25.08.
 Weiser varsity girls were second in the sprint medley relay. Kunz, Doty, Davies and Quinton ran the race in 1:58.52.
 The Wolverines finished in ninth and tenth for discus. Matlin Wolery came in ninth with 80 feet 7 inches and Whitney Turner took tenth with a distance of 79 feet 7 inches. 
 Weiser took tenth in the women’s high jump. Doty jumped 4 feet 4 inches.
 Kunz came in second for pole vault with 7 feet 6 inches. Ella Terry was seventh with six feet 6 inches and Faith Cannon came in ninth with a height of 6 feet. 
 Ashlyn Walker took fourth in the long jump with 14 feet 3 inches and Samantha Despain landed in ninth with a jump of 13 feet 10.5 inches.
 Shirts took second in the triple jump to finish out the scoring for Weiser. She had a jump of 34 feet 4.25 inches.
 The Wolverines next meet will be April 28, hosted by the Fruitland Grizzlies.
