Weiser girls work on game at softball clinic

On the heels of a fast and full summer of tournament softball, 42 area girls got to dig deeper into the sport during a pitching/hitting/fielding clinic brought to Weiser on Saturday, Sept. 7, by Reps Training and Hitting Facility in Garden City.
Owned by Joel Oliver, Reps specializes in softball and baseball lessons, clinics, and full team practices. The facility provides personalized coaching to several college level players, along with club teams and their individual members, which are numerous in the more heavily populated Boise and surrounding area.
At the clinic in Weiser, Oliver focused on infield workouts, while assistant Jon Keller took the girls through hitting and outfield drills. Pitching coach Rainey Dyreson led four pitching sessions through the day.
Locally, the club variety of softball has surged over the past two summers, with U-12, U-14, and U-16 teams playing under the banner of Washington County Warriors. In addition to the softball teams, two boys’ baseball teams in U-12 and U-10 divisions played tournament ball under the Warriors name this past summer.
All three Warriors softball teams finished their tournament season in McCall’s Mountain Madness at the end of July.
The Warriors’ 2019 U-12 softball team wrapped up the year after playing 57 games and facing 40 different teams between April 27 and July 21. Coached by Jayson Noyer, Eddie Bittinger and Ben Janicek, the team brought home hardware from three tournaments this season.
The team’s members included: Paisley Noyer, Danica Lockett, Josie Thompson, Bennett Torres, Lily Janicek, Ellie Shirts, Kinlynn Thompson, Lily Bittinger, Jessica Waite, Hailey Eames, Madi Janicek, Anna Dimmitt, and Sage Brock.
In the upcoming 2020 season, Coaches Noyer and Bittinger will move up with several of the players into the U-14 ranks, while Coach Janicek will continue building and developing players in the U-12 age division.
This year’s U-14 team trophied in two tournaments and was coached by Cody Samson and Bud Swank. Team members were: Aryssa Aburto, Tobie Noyer, Hannah Samson,  Isabella Thomason, Abby Wilkins, Grace Swank, Macy Maloney, Rylee Roberts, Hannah Swank, Jordan Campbell, Arimiah Egner, Jessie Cantrell and Ashlyn Allaire. All but three on the team will move to U-16 in 2020.

Team members included: Alex Bittinger, Whitney Cordes, Erika Tyree, Shalee Huggins, Jakaela Ruiz, Makaela Ruiz, Ivy Morris, Kali Branstetter, Mecarte Olson, Alexa Lundstrum, Maddie Phillips, and Kaija Thompson.
