Senior Sara Lundberg shot a 40 to lead the Lady Wolverines to a first place finish at the SRV Conference golf tournament last Wednesday at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Weiser.
A team score of 181 earned the Weiser varsity girls the win and makes them the top seed going into the SRV District tournament this week. Homedale came in second with a score of 201, and Payette was third with 259.
Lundberg picked up medalist honors for the fourth tournament in row with the best round of the afternoon for the girls at Rolling Hills GC. Teammate Stella Beams carded a 44, followed by Faith Lee, who finished the round with a 45. Sydnee Reyes had a 52 and Ciana Fuller rounded out the scoring for Weiser with a 54.
The win continues a lengthy record of success on the links for the Lady Wolverines, who are the  SRV champions for the 18th year in a row.
“It was a great day to be a Wolverine golfer. I am very proud of the efforts of our golfers today. The girls have had a wonderful season so far. Truly outstanding,” coach Jon Lundberg said. “This is nice but really doesn’t mean anything for this week’s district tournament.  Both teams will need to have excellent practices and really be focused in our district tournament to achieve our goals.”
The Weiser boys had a good round and finished in second place with a score of 177. Fruitland won the tournament with a score of 157. The Payette boys had a round of 184 and came in third place.
“The boys are starting to peak at the right time. Nice rounds from Justin Estes, Caden Cramer and Chris Lee made the difference for us placing second. It is important to be on the upswing heading into districts,” Lundberg said.
For the Weiser boys, Justin Estes and Caden Cramer both shot a solid 43 for the round. Their scores were only two shots over the best round of the day. Chris Lee posted a 44, followed by Abe Konvalin who shot a 47. Mikaid Wall rounded out the scoring for Weiser with a 50.
Fruitland’s varsity boys dominated once again with the top three scores of the afternoon. Jake O’Neil won medalist honors with a 37, followed by another Grizzly, Jonas Bicknese, who carded a 40. Anthony Vincent’s 42 was the third best round among the boys.
Both the varsity boys and girls competed in the 18-hole SRV District Tournament on Monday at Rolling Hills in Weiser. Results will be in the May 15 issue.
