Weiser girls cross country team is headed to the state championships in Pocatello; Ben Hanthorn also qualifies

On Tuesday, October 20, Weiser High School cross country teams hosted the 3A District III championships at Rolling Hills Golf Course. This event included all six teams from the district and determined who qualified for State both as teams and as individual runners.
 In the men’s division, Fruitland’s Atticus Anderson set the pace with a 17:57.03 first place finish. He was only two seconds ahead of Parma’s Dakoda Lamb who finished at 17:59.
 Parma took first place as a team. Weiser’s top finisher was Ben Hanthorn who finished in fifth place with a time of 18:38.25. This was Hanthorn’s second fastest race of the season.
 Weiser had two other runners in the top 20 with Charlie Woods finishing 17th with a time of 20:19.46. Colton Foster finished 20th with a time of 20:35.64. Hanthorn qualified for state as an individual runner.
 In the women’s division, Sophie McManus from McCall Donnelly finished first with a time of 20:24.36. Cori Hatfield from McCall Donnelly finished second with a time of 21:53.80. Angela Carpenter from Parma took third with a time of 22:29.13.
 Weiser’s top finisher was Kendall Rynearson with a time of 22:46.37, a fourth place finish. Libbie Rynearson came in ninth with a time of 34:14.85 and Emily Abramson finished 11th with a time of 24:35.37. Nadine Chandler finished 19th with a time of 26:10.65. Kiarra Hoobery finished 21st with a time of 26:48.57. Naomi Chandler finished 22nd with a time of 26:50.84.
 As a team, Weiser finished third behind Parma and McCall Donnelly and qualified for state.
 Sisters, Kendall Rynearson and Libbie Rynearson were very excited to qualify as a team and to get to qualify together as sisters for the state competition.
 “All of the hard work we have put into this season has become so much more meaningful now that we get to go to state and experience it together. It’s amazing that not only did we make it as sisters, but that the team made it as well. We cannot wait to compete this Friday,” Rynearson said.  
 The State cross country championships will take place in Pocatello at the Portneuf Wellness Complex on October 30.
