Weiser football beats Emmett 34-28

The Weiser High School football team notched its second victory of the season, beating 4A non-conference Emmett 34-28, pushing its early-season record to 2-0.
 Wolverine senior quarterback Brett Spencer went 8 for 13 passing, with one touchdown and one interception. He gained 193 yards on the ground on 15 carries, and two rushing touchdowns.
 The first score of the game came on a 15-yard pass to Evan Haggerty, who caught two passes in the contest.
 Willy Shirts recorded 171 yards on 27-attempts, scoring one touchdown on a 20-yard reception.
 He also scored on a fumble recovery after Maddox Stevens knocked the ball out of the hands of a Husky kick returner on a third-quarter kickoff, which head coach Tom Harrison said was a “huge special teams play.”
 Jack Burke had 18 yards on 4 carries, and gained 7 yards on 1 reception.
 Brock Spencer added 4 yards on 2 carries, and 5 yards on 2 receptions.
 Payton Albertson and Mike Youngberg both caught two point conversions.
 Caleb Grove rushed for 11 yards on 3 carries, the score standing 14-14 at the half.
 In the second half, Haggerty scored on a 15-yard reception, but the kick failed.
 In the third quarter, Brett Spencer scored on a 70-yard run, the kick once again failed. Haggerty next scored on a 20-yard fumble recovery, with Albertson scoring the two-point conversion.
 Shirts would score next on a 10-yard touchdown run, but the kick missed the uprights.
 “We had a solid game from Rylee Willet, our middle backer and offensive guard, along with seniors Malachi Hoobery and Jesse Locket,” said Harrison.
