Weiser Chamber of Commerce announces award winners

The ballots have been returned and the votes tallied for the 2018 Weiser Chamber of Commerce awards.  

 The winners will be recognized at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual community awards banquet on Oct. 15, one of the most anticipated nights of the year and an event that attracts a who’s who of locals. 

 The winners include:

 Student Organization of the Year: WHS Future Farmers of America.

 Business of the Year: Ruszoni’s Pizza.

 Outstanding Citizen Award: Sandy Michael.

 Educator of the Year: Wendy Martell.

 Community Organization of the Year: Four County Art Guild.

 Lifetime Achievement Award: Terry Mooney.

 Community Enhancement Award: Joe Malay.

 Mayor’s Award: Sarah Imada.

 The awards dinner will be held at the Vendome Events Center on Oct. 15 and will feature decorated tables with this year’s theme, “Business and Industries in Idaho.” The theme tables have proven to be popular. Last year’s theme was “Celebrations Around the World” and there were a total of 30 decorated tables.

 Chamber officials said the theme for this year’s event is an effort to “keep it local” and highlight great things about the state. The tables should represent a product or business that is all Idaho. Some local industries include wine country, onions, candy companies and the sheep and cattle industries are just a few examples.  

  Chamber officials have offered a couple of reminders about table decorating. Tables cannot be saved in advance of the doors opening. This is an effort to be fair to everyone.

 Also, everything used to decorate the tables should be used with the understanding that someone at that table will be taking those items home at the end of the night. Decorating the tables is a big incentive for people to come to the banquet every year. They enjoy seeing the effort put into each table and have fun choosing a table, the chamber said.
